Hi everyone. Was a TrackIR 1 user years ago, that won't work with Vista and I refuse to pay the money they are asking for the trackIR 4 Pro. So FreeTrack looks like an excellent alternative and I congratulate all those involved for both their ingenuity and their generosity in making available for free.
How my question: I'm not able to have the webcam in front of me due to the very close proximity of a fresnal lens. So I was wondering if the camera could be placed above my head and the axis' reassigned? |

There was a post on this a while back.
Basically, You can't do it without modifying the source for the program. because of how positioning's calculated. Would it be possible to have the camera beside the (monitor?)? It seems to somewhat work for me, but that seems as your only options for now. |

Actually, in FT 2.2 (in closed beta stage at the moment) you can reassign the axes, so the camera can be placed directly above you and look straight down. You can also calibrate the orientation of the camera in software, so it can placed high above the monitor and pitched down to have you in its view.
So you'll have to wait for the 2.2 release for 6DOF. But if you have the camera in front and a bit above you, the 2DOF mode still works rather fine even in 2.1 (well, actually up to 4DOF can work - 3 rotations and zoom - i used FT like this for a while in FS2004). Just the forward/back translations are way off - if you move your head forward, the virtual head moves forward and down).

I always get tracking errors in my setup. Turning head always reads also as a bit of tilting, looking down (most noticiable) and a little translation. Going foward and back also reads as going down and up. My camera is placed above the monitor. Already tried below and at the side. It gets worse. Already tried several positioning of IR emmiters im my 3 point "cap" (not realy a cap). Not a big issue. The missreadings are small enough to make them imperceptible "in game" with good sensitivines and curve setings.
Is there some correct way of positioning the camera and/or IR LEDs on the "cap"? Are those missreadings normal? EDIT: I was just reading the Hardware faq (again, cause it was a long time now) to see if I missed something about the positioning of the camera and the LEDs... to clear that: the positioning of the LEDs relative to the head (not each other). The 3p "cap"
