Hey there,

the software really sounds like a lot of fun.
Can you tell me when the v.2.2. is going to be realeased?

(Mainly for Wiimote support).

Thanks!

I hope, i didn't create a useless thread, but I didn't find an answer anywhere else on the homepage.

Hi,

The v2.2 is currently being tested by the beta-test team. We don't have a release date yet, but we're on final approach... ^^

Tracking precision and sensibilty is better with FreeTrack 2.2 than others FreeTrack 2.x release ...
YUY2 webcam are now supported ...
It's possible to select an axis for relative translation ...

Sounds great, but why don't you give everyone the chance to test the beta versions?
Most developers of open source programs offer a stable and a beta version.
If you just want to use the application without having to deal with unexpected crashes and weird behavior you take the stable one.
However, if you want to contribute to improving the program and try new features you download the beta version.
The more people testing the bigger the chance of bugs being discovered and fixed.

I think it would be better for them if they work it out as they are doing. If you have too many people testing out the beta version, it will slow the progress of the solutions. Every bug will be reduntantly reported, so finding each new problem would require sifting through hundreds of messages.

As right now, the only reduntant question they have to face is "When will 2.2 arrive?" Since this has already been addressed dozens of times, there is no more a need for a response, and they continue their software adjustments in peace.

As I theorize, all of the major bugs are already discovered. The only problems with completion is finding solutions that don't create new bugs.

I hope this makes since to you, and I hope you are not offended by my comment.

I know what is like when you are pressured to complete a project that takes time to get right the first time.  The funny thing is I sell hardware to people for use with this software, and even though they give me their money to make the caps, I never have gotten any pressure from anyone to finish quickly.

With the software, they don't ask a single dime from us, and even with a working version already out, they have had all the user provided deadlines.

Thats just my view though, and I'm not aiming it at you. But I do think many people with this question should read this, and put theirselves in the programmer's shoes.

Thanks

Marcus

No offense taken, I'm a programmer myself so I know that the work always takes longer than expected.
I understand your argument about bugs being reported multiple times.
However, every person has a different hardware setup and it's impossible to test the program on all combinations.
Giving out betas could help fixing small bugs which just occur with certain webcams or computers.

Many people are waiting for Freetrack 2.2, because of the wii remote support. I guess, the open bugs/problems are in some parts, that are not concerning the wii support. So, it would be possible to release a version with wii support. But this would slow down the work on the final version, I know. At the end, it will be the best to be more patient and wait until everything is done.

I'm also involved into programming - and i also know the problems.

still, i think it's good to let the users know how far the process is going on - and that's what babasior did. thank you!

So not even a release date yet? its ashame there isnt a beta build SVN for us because i know that i happily beta test programs well aware of their problems.

About problems being over reported, easy, make a forum just for the beta where we can post. The topics with the most replies stating they have the same issue get more attention while the single user issues get less attention.
