A prebuilt LED light setup under $20?

I am not sure if I can correctly setup and wire the leds on my own and I don't want a cord attaching me to my computer unless I have no other choice.

Othewise I guess ill have to give building my own led setup a shot.

I have a ps3 eye if that matters.

hi titan357,

A prebuilt LED light setup under $20

maybe something like this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DelanClip-Free-Track-head-motion-tracking-3-point-model-similar-to-TrackIR-/231011828918?pt=UK_Motion_Sensors_Cameras&hash=item35c960c4b6

But it is much cheaper to built it yourself.First you have to decide if you want a clip mount or a cap.
Then look on this forum for examples what  people made.

The ps3 eye is a good cam for freetrack if you have the good type  :D .

If you to decide to make your own model, you can use batteries as powersource.Or usb power(5volts) with an rechargable back-up battery.Something like this.I use a cap and have it atached to the back of my cap.I can fly for hours with it, without running empty or irritating me.

Guess I had better try my hand at making my own then. I will try for a cap mount.
I don't remember what my camera looked like since I only tried it out a bit with the facetrackno Ir and didn't like that.

I had track Ir and it worked well enough but I don't like having to wear anything on my head if I can avoid it, and I didn't like the track clip pro. Or having a cord attached to the pc in case I have to get up quickly.

I got this one off amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VTQ3LU/ref=as_li_tf_til?tag=freetrack0a-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=B000VTQ3LU&adid=1E023Z7MJV8M29N42Q51&&ref-refURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.free-track.net%2Fenglish%2Fhardware%2Fcamera.php

I live in the US and I am not sure where I can get the LED lights and power source from. I am thinking radio shack maybe.

Will these work?

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062565&znt_campaign=Category_CMS&znt_source=CAT&znt_medium=RSCOM&znt_content=CT2032233

with this

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062253

What resistors would I need?

Thanks

Edit

So I used the assembly wizzard.

I put in I woud be using 4 AA batts so 6 volts.

the leds at 1 volt (they are rated at 1.28V) and 90MA (rated at 100) and I got the resistor value of 33ohms.

Is this correct?

I only need 1 resistor for the setup if I use a series build.

Yes, but you have them filed down to a better tracking angle like this

That batteryholder, do you want to use rechargable or normal batteries?Rechargeable batteries have a voltage of 1,2V instead of 1,5V.So you will need different resistor values. But the batteryholder is just fine for your project.

But check this shop first, this is also in the USA
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/dksearch/dksus.dll?FV=fff40008%2Cfff80028%2Cfffc01db%2C4fc005e%2Cb440010&k=ir+leds&mnonly=0&newproducts=0&ColumnSort=0&page=2&stock=0&pbfree=0&rohs=0&quantity=&ptm=0&fid=0&pageSize=25

They sell SFH485P ir-leds.Those are my favorites for freetrack.A wide beam angle total 80 degrees. You don't need to file them down.

I found a post on this forum what wil help you.
www.free-track.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=2663

Calculating the resistor value you can do like this:
R = U / I
R = (voltage power supply - 3 x Voltage led) / current you want to use.

examample with recharable AA batteries of 1,2 volts with SFH485P leds of 1,5 volt at 0,08A
(4,8V-4,5)/0,08A= 3,75 Ohm
Resistors are not that expensive you can always order different values. But don't forget you need a different resistor value if you use normal batteries.

I have everything hooked up, 4 leds and one 33 ohm resistor on 4 AA rechargable battery's.

Doesn't seem to be working, not sure what my next step is.

three leds should be enough and you can't see ir-leds light up with your normal eyes. You have somthing like 0,036A running through your setup.I think that is not enought.Just try with normal batteries and three leds and you will have 0,072A running.I think they must be visible then with forexample the camera of a smartphone.

if I hook one led to one battery I can see it light up on my camera, so that one led is good. But somewhere else I have a problem. Either a bad connection or a bad power box. I hooked all the leds up the same way in series and if I go to one battery and one led my + and - are right. So I know I did that right.

I ran from the frist led + from the battery box, then from that led - to the next led + and so on back to the battery box.

I soldered every connection, they should be good.

Edit.

Derp I had a led wired backwards, they all work now!

Thank you, now I got to modify the ps3 eye I guess.

Do you think it might work w/o having to crack it open? I am pretty sure I have the "good" one from that link you gave me.

Oh, I havent filed them down yet.
Im afraid too. I don't think I have a fiie I can use.

Hi,
if you have the good one then you don't have to modify him.Just try and you will see if it works.
This guy did not modify him or file down the leds.

Thanks guys, everything is working now. All 4 leds are great.

I had to remove the IR filter from my ps3 eye and work with some settings but its tracking great!
