Hello!

Logitech Webcam c170

I have 3 questions for you.

1. Does anyone know how to remove the infrared filter of my C170?
2. Is there a filter on this cam at all?
3. Do i need to remove the filter, if i´m using normal led´s and not infrared?

Thank you all!

Hi,

1.http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=3561&message=18268

2. Probably yes, I do not know any cam without, although some are rather weak.

3. No, you do not remove the filter when using normal LEDs (red one works better than others, when using a red-pass filter).
But...you can't track under normal light condition. Any light source behind (window, lamps, light-reflection on glasses and other surfaces) leads to malfunction when Freetrack track them as dots.
Give it a try if you want. It works for me as long as I've played at night.
Now, ir-Leds are much more comfortable under any conditions.

Hey,

the ir filter of the Logitech c170 is removeable, I just did it.
The case for the lens is glued, but you can remove it with a little effort.

1. You have to unscrew the 2 screws on the back of the cam, then open the cam.
2. Push a little to the case of the lens, the glue will break and the case is lose.
3. The filter is in the black case of the lens. You can remove it with a box cutter, or a small screwdriver. Just put it between filter and plastic and lever a little bit. The filter should come out, it is not glued or something, I broke mine but I will not need it anymore.
I made a picture from the case of the lens with the filter.

Good luck ;)

Hey!

I have similar webcam logitech C110 and I have problems removing the lens case from it. It is glued very tightly in place and i'm afraid that i brake whole camera if i force it off. Any advice how did you do it? Also is there any chance to get better picture from your lens case. That one is very blurry.

Hey,

sorry I have no better pictures, but I don't think you have to be afraid to break it.
The case just holds the lens and the IR filter, so in the worst case is you break the IR filter. I don't think that you damage the lens, because it is surrounded by plastic.
I pushed with a knife against the side of the case and the glue is really steep so it breaks easily.
You could try to cut the glue a little bit, with a very sharp knife.
