Hi,

For the past week i have been looking for a true 1:1 360 degrees headtracking system for a home VR  setup im planning to build.

I have found only 1 product thats somewhat affordable and exactly what i need. The Gyrotrack from vrealities.

Problem is this piece of equipment has a pretty hefty pricetag and seeing its a pretty old piece of hardware there must be something better/cheaper out there.

I just cant seem to find it.

I also think its possible to do true 1:1 360 headtracking with software and a webcam only but the market for it is probably really small as most people only use headtracking with a single monitor setup.

So for my question...

Does anyone here on the forums know of a true 1:1 360 headtracking system? Or perhaps know of software that enable this via a webcam ?

I don't think a full 360° is possible with a webcam, you needs gyros

I think that doing something like this would be possible using multiple cameras, and other than the current 3-point model.

You'd probably end up having to write it yourself--360 headtracking with a single webcam would require a very fancy headset. It'd be much easier with multiple cameras, but that involves multiple cameras.

What if the webcam is attached to your head, and the LEDs are (somehow) placed around you?  ;)
Or using non-ir LEDs, different colors... like if you have a green LED on the right side of your hat and it's not visible = you're facing the camera with your left ear, and so on...   ;D
I'm sorry for my broken english and simplistic talking. Also i'm not experienced with electronics or programming and i suppose i'm gonna be laughed at, but it's ok with me - i just had to share my silly ideas :)

Keep FreeTrack alive, please!

Cheers!

I know this is an old thread, but wouldn't it be easiest to put the webcam/wiimote directly above you facing down and the 3 point clip facing up? Then remap the axes? Roll and yaw would switch, pitch would stay the same. Well I guess if you turn the webcam/wiimote 90 degrees yaw would become pitch, roll would become yaw, and pitch would become roll. I remember talking about this a couple years ago, here it is:

I never got around to trying it. Looks like getting yaw to the roll axis is the key. Does FreeTrack even support 360 degrees in the roll axis? If not this might only be suitable for better 1:1 tracking with an HMD on in a seated position.
