Wouldn't it make it easier to have people chose freetrack if kits were made available to purchase and software ready to use, or with a wizard to easily set it up.
Somebody get authorization to make and distribute the hardware. Sell it in a kit. Offer software tailored to the devices you have, webcams and leds. I'm sure many people would be willing to pay for freetrack, expecially if it were effective, easy to use, and provided all the needs that NaturalPoint does. Most people aren't electronic friendly. Most people won't even touch a soldering gun and might not even know what they are. Put a kit together for 50-75 bucks. Just an idea. I wouldn't mind putting together a few of these things. I think the real deal is that freetrack shouldn't leech off the publicity of NaturalPoint. They need to advertise by themselfs. I didn't hear about TrackIR untill I got a nice joystick for flight simulator x. And while searching for addons I stumbled upon TrackIR. I know tons of people would purchase a kit and even purchase software to use it with. You might could even include demo's with the kit. So there's my two cents. |

Well, the cams are of course licensed under whoever manufactured them but I am not sure of the legalities of altering a product and reselling it. Lets say you wanted to start a tee shirt company and bought loads of Hanes tee shirts. Then you alter the tees by printing your own designs on them and selling them at a markup. If you pay retail for the tees and there is no fine print stating the consumer will not alter the tees you should be ok. The problem is more and more these days hardware manufacturers are trying to lock down the modifications of their products with all these end user licensing agreements. If you or I planned on making money on this sort of thing, the open forums is probably not the place to discuss it. But you could easily sell detailed instructions on hacking a cam without mentions the particular cam, include a light filter, and a preassembled head clip. I couldn't see anyone spending more then 10 or 15 dollars on this though as if you really want one bad enough you can always find someone to do the soldering for you for buying them lunch or something, and the rest of the info is availible on the net for free so, I would embrase the whole freeness thing and be happy that there are still some great people in the world that believe in helping others without always trying to make a profit on it. I for one could not thank the programmer of freetrack enough for facilitating the ability to make, use, and love my freetrack system. I for one would be willing to help anyone put this together and set it up. Everyone should have one of these.
