Hi to all FreeTrack User
My Headtracking system is not ready yet, so I spend some time in finding a good solution for a removabel Light Filter. I bought a Microsoft VX3000. A very nice cam and also to use for other Web stuff . Specially for this reason I tried to find a way to remove the light filter when ever I am not using free track. My IR filter is not removed yet. maybe not recommended, i am not sure. The first test with FreeTrack Software and my Laser mouse was pretty good. I only had some light reflections but a clear visibility spot from my Lasermouse. I can give further informations about the IR Filter if my Headtracking system is ready. Ok here we go. As mentiont in different Threads and Tutorials, it is recommended to remove the IR Filter from the cam and use a light filter for reducing reflections. Most solutions I saw cam up with taping a filter in front of the cam or put it inside, instead the removed IR filter. Both work very well, but are some kind of static solutions in case you want to use your cam for something else. Thats what you need for the removable Light filter: First thing you need to do is, find a cap that fits to your cam In my case my girlfriend found a cap from a milk drink, that is really perfect for this use. Watch the second lip in the inside of the cap. Next step: Drill a hole in your cap. The size should be the size of your Lens. I decided to drill a hole with 14mm diameter. EDIT: 14mm is not enough. Try to make the hole as wide as possible. Otherwise you loose the wide angel for tracking. As recommended I use a film filter (sensitivity 100) EDIT: ONLY ONE LAYER! And finally after taping the Layer Film filter in front of the cap it looks like this. Easy to remove and you can focus the lens by turning the cap.

Thanks for your kind words didja
As you can see i used two different kind of Taps to fix the Filter. I found out that the Grey tape is not very well for this use. The good old Scottch tape is much better to keep the filter in correct position. And dont try glue..... Bitchy stuff this film filter Next week I got my LEDs. Than I can show you my cute Cap

really nice!!!
I was thinking about using the cap of the film can but not the can it self. D´oh! EDIT: After testing the Setups I can say that both work. Modifikation: -Removing IR Filter !!! -Making the hole wider for a broad tracking angel. -Using only one layer of Film filter. three is way to much. -The Disk is easier to handle, so I decided to use the disc instead of Film filter. I highly recommend the "Russian Mod" for this cam.
