I have been lurking these forums as an unregistered guest for quite a while now. Well, honestly, about a year. $6500 in home renovations, two new car payments (I ONLY WANTED ONE!!!), and a father-in-law who is living with us...all kept putting Freetrack on my back burner even though I am an avid IL-2 1946 and ArmA player.

Within the past week, I was finally able to start working collecting the materials my freetrack rig.

Ballcap: $5 from K-mart
1100mcd White LED's: $17 from Radio Shack
12 AWG Copper Wire: Free. Found at a construction site.
26 AWG connecting wire: $3 for a 100' spool from a local store
4 AAA Battery Holder w/ On/Off switch: $5 from Radio Shack
Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX: $35 Open box from Best Buy
Velcro to hold the battery holder: $3

Total: $68

Many thanks to the authors of this software and the individuals who helped out others on these forums. I could have come on here and posted alot of questions, but it was more rewarding to get it done on my own  :D

I am going to redo the wiring to "pretty" it up, but I wanted to make sure the LED locations worked first.

Here's a pic of the front:

Your setup seems okay, just make sure that you've respected those dimensions :

I experiemented a bit with the dimensions

Those dimesions worked out better for me as I am sitting a little over 1 meter away from my monitor. The camera has to also sit at a downward angle as well.

With the smaller dimensions, I was losing tracking. When I spread them out a bit, my tracking was spot on and I could set the sesnsitivities just right so I wasn't cranking my neck to look over my shoulder ingame  :D

This weekend, I will be removing the IR Filter from the webcam and switching to infrared LED's :)

I don't use dimensions from FT 2.2.x beta too, but i use dimensions of 2.1 release ...

This work perfectly with new FT 2.2.0.x too ... (but you must to put them on freetrack 2.2.0.x ... FreeTrack 2.2.0.x is only for freetrack team and beta users for the moment ...)

Didja speak about new FreeTrack 2.2.0.x dimensions ...

Made some modifcations (no pix, will add later)

Switch to an IR LED.

Thos one to be exact: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=LNA2603F-ND

Works like a charm with the IR lens removed from a Logitech Communicate STX :)
