I am so lost as far as what is the issue I am about to completely give up on this program. I designed a 3 point CAP. The 2 lower points are 6 " apart, middle point is 4 " higher than the two lower points and 3" behind them.
I unhooked my 32" moniter to use my 19" wide screen so the web cam could be at level head height. I have tried EVERYTHING and this thing will NEVER work. It is not the CAP design. I am postive on that. I have change the design at least 4 times with the middle point being lower, higher, further back, closer in. NOTHING works. I look left, it looks up, I look right it looks down. I can invert but all that does is mean I look left and it looks down instead of up ect ect. I have read the hardware FAQ and software FAQ backwards and forwards and NOTHING I am doing is not correct. I have followed rule by the book and this does not work. I am truly at my last straw. WHY does this thing not track correctly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1) I have tried changing the heigth of CAM 2) I have changed 3 point designed to different sizes still won't work OK I am running test as I am typing this and this is just sad. I have not changed anything, have not moved. Now when i look left it goes up, Then I look right and it goes up also. I mean it is a guessing game what it is going to do next. I have about had it. Someone PLEASE for the love of god give me a hand at what could be causing this other wise I give up on this. Thanks in advance Hotshot |

I think I have figured out the problem. The middle LED is losing its point when in a decent yaw. It is not dropping the point completely but it is clicking on and off which is causing it to have the head go crazy and drop or rise .
Not completely postive but I am about 90% sure that is the issue. I just placed a order for the SFH487P are what ever the good 80 degree ones. Does this sound like ti could be the issue? thanks Hotshot |

I'm not saying I'm sure it is the issue but I'm sure it can work fine with this LED going away sometimes !
I just hope it does is the issue !!! It would be great for you as you are trying everything for days without getting any result !!! Rémy |

Are you sure you have the right type of set up clicked on that top bar? You aren't accidentally using the 3 point clip profile are you? That would then think you have your clip on sideways?

Good thinking USMCBEANS, i would newer have thought of that - i wear my hat. WELL, 6" apart on the shade of the hat, would that not be a problem (can the cammera see them when you turn your head). if the light disapers for the webcam it cant track - and fails. -well, best of luck. and check SETUP, the ORANGY/YELLOW one should be selected. 3 POINT HAT

Here's an idea mate: Insert an on-on (two selectable positions) switch into your existing circuit so that one position of the switch selects only the middle diode, while the other position selects all three. This shouldn't be too hard to do. Once you've done that, test your setup and different camera positions with a single point setup, to get the feel of things (maybe one of the axis is inverted in the camera driver settings). Once the single point tracking is working as advertised, switch on all three diodes and things should be fine, only you want have as much freedom to move your head. Adjust the sensitivity and response curves in such a manner that unintentional movements are not transferred to the screen (while testing you want to have complete control over whats happening). Also, you'll only lose nerves with weak diodes. If one of them isn't detected when you turn your head all the way to any side, your setup wan't give you what you need. Replace the resistor with a 20 kOhm pot and vary the resistance in the circuit to get a decent signal. If the diodes burn out, oh well, put in the good ones. I've burnt three diodes I've purchased in a local store, and now a single diode from an old remote works like a charm. Haven't given up on three point tracking yet though, but must decide on the emitting intensity of the diodes I'm about to purchase. While we're at it, the weak ones were emitting 1.2 mC/2 (data on the printout from the store), does anyone know the emitting intensity of the diodes theyre happy with, so that the rest of us know whats our target emitting power?
No need to lose the big monitor mate, just elevate your tracker setup somehow (a clip and a stick) to align it with the camera. Also, your camera setup is important, but you didn't complain about FPS or jitter, so I guess you've done that part right. And most importantly: don't give up, this is a great app! Good luck P.S. On the second thought, have you tried attaching your camera to the side of your screen? There are cameras out there designed to work like that... it could explain your look down --> head view moves right symptoms.

Hmm, I just saw in the other forum that you have already checked to make sure you are on 3-point cap so thats not it. Could you take screenshots of your free track settings and post them here? Maybe even a couple pics of your set up with your cam and monitor.

Sorry for not replying in a while guys. I got the situation handled. What was going on was 2 things.
First, with the cam mounted on top of the 32" LCD, it was making the cam see the points in a completely different manner and messing up the planes since it was at a downward angle. So I went back to my 22" widescreen Samsung which the top of is almost completely lined up with my head so the tracking is PERFECT!! Second problem after that was resolved. The left and right points when I would turn head would drop the point and become in the middle of lossing but not lossing causing the head to go all jittery. My dad ordered 70 SFH485P so we have a large stock now , before I was using a cheap radio shack LED that I sanded down and I think the view angle was not enough. Once the points are being read correctly it is working perfectly and has completely changed my gaming experience in IL-2. Which I been playing on the Historic WARBIRDS servers and it is sooooooo different to be able to keep your eye on a plane and just guide the nose to where you need to go. Has amped up my skill level 10 fold. So bottom line is, it was faulty LEDS and poor view angle for the cam. With those fixed it is working 150% correctly. THANKS YOU GUYS for all your help and thanks for being patient with my impatient ass All in all TOP NOTCH software and excellent job FT team. I love you guy Later guys, talk to you all soon Hotshot |
