I heard about this from youtube and since my dad just ordered him a TRACK IR. I figured I will go out and try this.

My items
1) VX-1000 Webcam
2) 6Volt 300 Milliamp Radio shack power supply with a quick disconnect
3)Soldering iron and solder

Here is my question.

I have yet to buy my IR LEDs or resistors (if needed). Now I know how to do this but since I am not to familar with electrial stuff I came here to see if you all can help me choose the right stuff.

1) Which LEDs and Resistors do I need for this setup (3 point Cap)???
I know I need the SFH485P since they have the large flat head to shoot a larger cone. BUT I am Lost about volts and such for these.
2) What kind of wire should be used????

Online Viper said to use 3 - 5mm flat-top SFH485P LEDs with a 880nm 1.5 volt with a 4.5 resistor or something like that.

Is there a 2.0volt LED that I can just go with 3 - 2 volt Leds and that will give me my 6 Volts to equal my powersupply???

Alot of this is just guessing on my part but that is why I am here to see if I can get some for sure answers so I can call my local electrial store and get the correct LEDs and such.

THANKS ALOT GUYS

Hello ! :D

You made a good choice with the SFH485P ! :D They are the best ^^ !

Just use the LED Assembly Wizard with those values :

It will tell you which resistors to use and how to connect the LEDs together... ;)

By the way, your webcam is okay ^^ !

Hey didja

Everything is not going as planned ;(

The SFH485P I am having a hard time finding a dealer here in the states. All places I called said they are stocked in ENGLAND. Shipping way more than the darn LEDs.

Now is there a equivalent LED I can use that I can file down and will be just as good as the SFH485P.

Also what kind of wire should I use??????

Thanks again buddy

Ok here is the IR LED I found

Power supply
6V
300 Ma

1) IR LED
1.6 V
20 Ma

2) Resistor
150 Ohm
20 Ma
.06 Watt

This is the resistor that the calculator said to use BUT my local radio shack has 1.4 watt and 1/8 watt and such.

Which would be the best for .06 watt which I have no idea what that translates to.

Hey HOTSHOT

-try a simple BIKE REAR-LIGHT (diodes ofcourse)
IT WORKS WELL, for me (and is almost for free here 1-2$).

MAKE it work, then UPGRADE (thats my plan so far -BUT the REARLIGHT works even i day light, with a floppy disk filter -and just sanded opal/opage with grid 600).

HAVE FUN

OK guys It is working

But I got a slight problem.

two axis are backwards. How can i fix this. OR what could be wrong.

This is how it is acting

Looking up = Looking Left
Down = Right
Left = UP
Right = Down

Roll, pitch and Yaw all seem to be working fine.

What could be the problem??

Thanks guys

What about the Global tab ?

Check that there are no invert box checked...

Otherwise, I have no idea... Are you sure that you have elected the correct system (3 point Clip/Cap).

I tried

Inverting just changes that if I move up then it moves right. If I invert and I move head up then it moves left.

But nothing to make the axis change.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I am soooooooooooo pissed about this.

Yea I have it on 3 point cap

OK went home for lunch break and being sooo pissed about what could be wrong I started messing with my CAP setup.

I think I found the problem.

My high middle point was pretty high on the middle of my cap and the two other leds were on the BILL.

I then pulled the middle LED forward to be on the same plane as the other two if you look at the cap from the side. From the front it is still high than the lower two but I think something with the middle point being so far back was screwing up the AXIS

Any this make sense?????

Or am I making it worse?

You can't allow all the points to be in the same plane and parallel with the camera plane. The middle point must be back from the other points and high enough that it doesn't get blocked by the bill during pitching (but no higher).

Make sure you have read the hardware and software faq stickies.

That is the ONLY way to get it to come close to working correctly.

If I postion the middle point high and to the back then the yaw and pitch axis reverse and looking up moves head left. ect ect

My web cam is located on top my desk about 2 feet above my head when sitting down.

If I line up the 3 points looking from the side of the cap then it works as supposed to. But I have a slight problem now with pitch. Pitching down is not working correctly because my camera is high up i am guessing but I am still maintaining a point on the test area so I am lost as far as that concerned.

None of the points rise above the cam

Please don't laugh at me or think I'm questioning your intelligence or anything,

But you do have the right setting selected within the software right?

I'm also new to all this and descovered there are 2 buttons which both have the 3 point LED setup, one for the clip and one for the cap.
