Running FreeTrack under Windows 8 should not be so complicated as it is at the moment:

#1. Issue:
FreeTrack is crashing everytime I press the "Start" button.
Got it solved somehow (can't remember but searching these forums helped me out fixing this problem, thanks to the great community here).

#2. Issue:
I can't activate/check "FreeTrack Interface" under "Output".
Got it solved by using Windows Enabler 1.1.
Why is it even necessary to use some 3rd party "small hack" to use one of the most important functions in this software?

#3. Issue:
Everything works, I got my 3-Point Clip model to work and adjusted the camera settings so freetrack shows my headmovement correctly.
But my camera settings don't save.
Everytime I restart FreeTrack i have to adjust the camera Settings and the Treshold again.
No matter if i create anew profile or safe it several times, when I close FreeTrack the settings for the camera get lost.

#4. Issue:
When I set up everything correctly and freetrack shows my headmovement I open ARMA2OA, start a mission and guess what: FreeTrack does not work at all.
I enabled the FreeTrack controller in ARMA2 and the "bindings" are auto created/added to their specific functions (pitch and yaw).
But no matter what I try, ARMA2 does not recognize my headtracking at all.

Any possible solution for this?

I already tried to re-install FreeTrack, start it with administrator rights, start in WinXP compatibility mode, nothing made it work in ARMA2.

Any helpful posts are appreciated.

I also would like to support this project, but since it does not receive a update to run properly under Windows8 x64, I will hold my money back, until the issues are fixed/solved somehow.

ATM I just have some useless 3-Point IR-LED Clip attached to my headset and some software that needs hours of research to even run it and enable the necessary functions, only to see it does not work in one of the more popular games these days (which I think it should support properly, especially since BIS implemented FreeTrack support into ARMA2 a while ago).

I'm not ranting, but I'm also not happy with the actual state of FreeTrack!
It could attract a big playerbase when it would work without all the listed issues I ran into.
Still, configuring/finding the right values, creating a working IR-LED-Clip and remove the cameras IR-Filter would be tricky and nothing that can be done in 5 minutes, but the software itself should at least run "out of the box" without causing so many problems.
This will make people give up and buy a TrackIR instead, which is no option for me!
I will NOT support NaturalPoint after all what I read about them.

So I'm full of hope that FreeTrack will get another update, in which the software gets rid of all the incompatibility issues.
I would like to see FreeTrack (together with selfmade gear) as a real alternative to TrackIR.

Hi KiloSwiss,

I personally think that Freetrack is for people who don't want to spent a lot of money for ir-tracking but are not afraid of experimenting and puzzling.

There are people who got it working with win8 64bit, so the combination freetrack and win8 should not be a problem.

Arma2 and freetrack should also not be a problem, again I have read about people who got it working.

I don't have solutions for you but did you als look on a arma2 forum?

Did you try ir-fixer?

I know that with win7 it sometimes helps to deactivate uac, but I don't know if you can have the same problem with win8.

Thanks for Your reply.

I already searched all available Forums, including the BIS community Forums and was reading trough several threads and hundreds of posts for the last couple of days.
I also found the IR-Fixer, but this is no option for me, since I want to play ARMA2 Online.
