Hi all.

I've been thinking about making myself a FreeTrack system for a while and finally got around to it.

My computer is situated in the corner of a room such that there is a wall about 20 inches to my right.
I mounted my camera on the wall facing the side of my head and assembled a 3 point clip model oriented on my head in the traditional way, (the plane of the LEDs is parallel to the direction I am facing.) This confuses FreeTrack because instead of seeing three points in a vertical line, it sees the side on view. (When I'm looking straight towards the monitor)

I have got Pitch and Yaw working (but not well enough to play with), by mapping Roll to Yaw and X to Pitch.

I imagine if I had the model facing the camera so that it saw the LEDs in a vertical line (as it expects), then it would work better. I'll try this now.

In the mean time I thought I'd come on here and ask the community if anyone has tried a side-facing camera setup before?

Hi,
Iam not sure, but you can choose side instead of front.Take a look at the Cam-tab maybe that is what you need.

That box where you can choose Front, Side, Top, First Person?
That's just for setting the view of the virtual skull. I'm pretty sure it has no effect on anything else.

Hi Hamish,

As far as I know, this angle of tracking isn't possible.
You can adjust the Cam position in the Cam-->Orientation table:

...but as you can see, max. value is 60° for yaw and pitch.

I do not see, why you want to fix your cam this way. Isn't there enough place around your monitor?

Two reasons:
1. The camera would be closer to the points and therefore probably get a clearer image.

2. The point model could be on the side of my head and completely out of my peripheral vision.

Hi,

You don't need a "clear" image. Freetrack only track dots to calculate geometric positions. Therefore resolution, focus and size of this dots are secondary.

Try to map your head-movements to other axis:

...but in my eyes your about to complicate your life. :stuart:  :)

I'm using visible light LEDs so to stop them casting unwanted light I've covered them with film. This makes them dimmer so putting the camera closer helps the camera actually see them.

You have to map Yaw on Yaw, Pitch to Roll, Roll to Pitch, X to Z, Y to Y and Z to X.

And the track-clip must be oriented to the cam, otherwise it won't works.

Yes that is what I have been using with the clip on the back of my head.
All working fine.

Roll to Yaw and X to Pitch was when I had the clip on the side facing perpendicular to the camera.
