Hi,

I'm a total electronics novice.

I used the LED assembly wizard which suggested following:

I had only a 20 and 30 Ohm resistor so I serialized them to get close to the suggested 56 Ohms.

I double-checked that the IR LEDs short legs go on PLUS, also made sure that the next IR LEDs short leg gos on the previousl LEDs long leg.

My construction looks like:

How I tested circuits:

I use my webcam to make IR light visible. Holding a remote control against the webcam makes the light visible.
To check if the connections really work I shortcutted them with a resistor and that heated up so I gues juice is flowing also.

What LEDs are you using? Part number?
A picture of the 3 LED wiring would be helpful.

Im using

The pics are too big. You need to scroll to the right to see the rest of the wiring  :D

Well first of all, never go by lead length!
This is a major fallacy to use as a reference because it can be different from each brand of LED.

Use the flat on the LED as the Cathode for a reference to the negative lead.
Your LEDs are wired backwards.
The foward voltage on a white LED is about 3.3 volts.
The maximum current on that LED is about 20 mA not 100mA.

Radio Shack specs:
This 5mm high-brightness white LED is ideal for hobbies and electronics projects.
Ideal for hobbies and electronics projects
High visibility, 5mm Round T-1 3/4
Intensity 7000mcd (typical);viewing angle 30°
FW current 25mA; FW supply 3.3 (typical), 3.6V (maximum)

I highly recommend using the SH485P IR LED as most members use.

Im really sorry I posted the wrong IR LED Part:

I changed the wiring so that the long leg now is on the plus.

UPDATE:

I found out that 2 of the 3 LEDs are defect.

Is there anything wrong with my resistor setup?

Could I have fried them?
