Hello! I need your help guys in creating a tracking system, so...
1. What is the best tracking system? With 3 or 4 leds?
2. I'm planning to power the system from an USB port so what resistors should I use? I whent at an electronics-shop and talk about my "project". The guy from there gave me 3 IR Leds normaly used at TV remote controllers (3 Volts LEDs) and 3 resistors with 5 band collors (brown, black, black, brown, brown....i thing those are 1K ohm resistors, I'm not shore). He told me to connect the leds in parralel, using those 3 resistors. I'm afraid of doing it wrong so i need your help, is it correct what that guy told me?

Hi,

1. Three LEDS is better.
2. You need the datasheet for the LEDS to determine the right resistors.
I don't see anything on this photo :blink:
Looks more then a 10 Ohm which makes more sense. Better photo possible?

Better use a USB Power adapter, if you don't know exactly how to do, you can damage your motherbord.
Have a look  here Post #24. With USB power adapter you don't need the PTC fuse.
Serial circuit is better in this case.

Nope, i cannot take a better picture:( but the color code on those resistors is: brown, black, black, brown, brown. I think it means 1Kohm resisror right?
Don't have datasheet eather:( but those are regular 3 Volt IR Led, commonly used for TV remotes. I gues that those are using 100 mA.
I do not have the posibility of buying SFH485p LEDs so i need to use what IR LEDs i allready have.
So, can someone show me a scheme so i can buil a circuit with the IR LEDs that i have? Maybe i can use those resistors too???

Use the 5 band / blue resistor for reading the values.

Brown - Black - Black x Brown - Brown = 1 - 0 - 0 x 10 - (1%) = 1000 Ohm = 1 kOhm

or

Brown - Brown - Black x Black - Brown = 1 - 1- 0 x 1 - (1%) = 110 Ohm

If you use 3x 110 Ohm (parallel) ===> 37 Ohm

Benmeijer, the picture you just posted is exactly the same as my resistors. I've searched the web and find that mine's are 110 Ohm resistors, not 1 kOhm.

So, if I'm using 3 Volt IR LEDs and 110Ohm resistors conected in paralel (3 LEDs and 3 resistors), supplied from a 5 Volt source (regular USB) will it all work?

In your diagram (showing SFH485p) the long leg is minus. Probably the leds you are using the long leg is positive!

In general the leg on the flat side of the led always is minus.

I think you should lower the values of the resistor. But try one led and resistor and use your camera to check if it lights up enough.

2 x 110 ohm parallel = 55 ohm
3 x 110 ohm parallel = 37 ohm

etc.

Cool ideea from the picture that you post, but after connecting resistors like that, how do you connect 3 leds? In series or parallel?

Use your own diagram, in the place where you have 1 resistor of 110 ohm, you could use 2 (or 3) to lower the resistance to 55 (or 37) ohm.

I dit it, my led system is complete!
But after finding that my webcam is not compatible, i've tryed Slipcam.
Te Slipcam is correctly setuped but still, in Freetrack all i see is a black window, no signal from the source called: Slipcam Video Capture
Can someno hel me please?

Nevermind, i bought a new camera called Gembird CAM66U.
The thing is that i don't know how to disable autoexposure. I only get 8 FPS in FreeTrack.
Can someone help me please?
