Hello to everyone.

I have a Microsoft Lifecam HD-5000 webcam and want to build a FreeTrack system based on that.

Problem is, I can't get the FreeTrack software to work. I haven't made the LED circuit yet, but tried the software to check whether it runs on my PC.

Whenever I select my webcam from the "Source" drop-down menu and click "Start", FreeTrack crashes.

I tried the same using an old analog JVC camcorder, connected via an AV-to-USB adapter, and the software seemed to work flawlessly.

I should also mention that clicking the "Start" button automatically launches the Lifecam software.

Any leads?

If you go to the main page and lookup the webcam compatibility page, you will see that your camera is on the list that needs vista enabler to get it working. Too bad that the downloadlink doesn't work, perhaps a moderator can help out here.

Thanks for your reply, Blindasabat (nice nick BTW)!

I have update on that problem:

I quit tinkering with the HD-5000 and bought a PS3 Eye instead, 'cause I read on the forums that it's an exceptional alternative to a "common" webcam.

And hell yeah, it is! I installed the driver needed to get it to work on Windows and tested it as a webcam. Its frame rate is something to be reckoned with.

But I have the same problem as with the Lifecam!
FreeTrack still crashes whenever I click the "Start" button.

I also tested the Eye on my laptop, running Win7 x64, and FreeTrack crashes on that too.

Maybe there is a driver or a codec that causes the crash? Do I have to install something additional to get things working?

Some info about my system may also help:

OS: Windows 7 x86
RAM: 4GB DDR3
CPU: Core i5 750 - 2.66 GHz
VGA: Radeon HD 4890 1GB
Sound: Realtek HD on-board
MOBO: MSI CD-53

Thanks for the compliment.

Have you installed the filter fix?

P.S.

I'm asking the moderators, put a link to this on de camera page with the PS3 Eye, would avoid a lot of unnesessary problems.

I installed the fix and now FreeTrack doesn't crash! Thanks, Blindasabat. I should have noticed that topic before.

The Eye works wonders. Now I only have to finish assembling the LED circuit.
