Hi guys,

(Feel free to skip these few introductory lines and jump straight to my question below).

First post, glad to be here! I had recently taken up sim'ing again, put together a medium-spec gaming PC from old components and found my old trusty HOTAS, when I saw a YouTube movie of a guy playing a fighter sim using a very cool simpit and something called TrackIR. You are all obviously familiar with TrackIR, but honestly I had never seen anything like it before, and was blown away. Took me only a few clicks to find NaturalPoint's website and um... that wasn't exactly cheap! So imagine my surprise when I learned that there is a very capable and fairly inexpensive way to do the same thing! Hence, my registration here! :) So, first and foremost, THANK YOU to the developers of the FreeTrack system and all the users for their willingness to share their knowledge and experience!

QUESTION:

I have a fairly low-spec gaming PC (I'd like to consider it a "medium-spec system, but I realize it is actually pretty lo-spec by today's standards), an AMD AthlonXP 3200 running Windows XP.

I happen to have an old PS2 EyeToy camera in a drawer somewhere and it appears to be a great solution for FreeTrack-use. However, I'm a little concerned about CPU usage. I will be playing sims like FreeFalcon5 and Jane's F/A-18, with all available mods n' stuff, so the PC is already working hard.
Then I learned that using a Wiimote is also an option, and that, compared to a webcam, CPU-load is very low using this solution.

Considering my modest CPU-specs, would you suggest going with the Wiimote-solution? Or should I simply forget about using FreeTrack on this system alltogether?

If it is between an Eyetoy (not PSeye) and Wii Remote, the Wii Remote will be superior. However there are several caveats you should be aware of when trying to use the Wii Remote on a PC. I explain some of them in this post: http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=3001
