Quick question,

I bought a microsoft vx3000, removed the IR filter and replaced it with a small piece of 5.25" floppy disk medium. I simply cut a small square, dropped it down on the CCD, and closed everything back  up. It seems to work perfectly in freetrack, it followed my television remote without problem .

The question I have is about night vision. I thought that when you replaced the IR filter with a disk medium or camera could capture IR. While it does capture it somewhat (ie. it can see the light from the TV remote), it shows nothing when you illuminate something with the remote. For instance, if I shine the IR from the remote on my face, directly infront of the webcam, it sees nothing but black. Have I done something wrong here or is the 5.25" disk maybe too obstructive?

thanks,
John

Are you trying to create a reflective cap setup or an IR LED cap setup?
Why would this be an issue?

The disk is just blocking out any indirect light and only letting the source itself shine though.
This is good as you won't get any unwanted reflections disturbing the software.

ok, thanks for the reply!

I was  just wondering how the people I see on youtube get night vision. They seem to do exactly what I have done...take out IR filter, replace IR filter with a piece of diskette or film and they get night vision.

I am planning to run a reflective setup though. I have another webcam only functions as night vision but has 6 led's. I am planning on swapping out the LED's with IR's and using that as my IR light source.
