Class : Apprenti Posts : 1 Registered on : 11/10/2007 Off line	Hi, I have question regarding IR-emitters. The Osram SFH485P is recommended in the Freetrack handbook. I have found another emitter in an online store: the Osram SFH487P It has the same forward current and voltage specs as the SFH485P, but it is only 3mm. It has a large half angle of 65° ,which is pretty usefull for tracking I guess. Has anyone any experience with this LED? Is a 3mm LED too small? greetings, zeurminator

My only concern is their size since at this time, almost every assembly has been done with 5mm leds. So we don't have feedback about tracking stability with 3mm leds. Again, it SHOULD work correctly. Class : Apprenti Posts : 4 Registered on : 04/06/2013 Off line	I'm waiting for RS components to stock some SFH487P (They said that it'll be most probably this friday) and they said they dont stock the SFH485P anymore so nothing I can do. Is there other people that have experience with the SFH487P? Cause i would love to know, i dont want to stuff it up and have the hassle of going back to their shop which is quite far and exchanging and then waiting EVEN longer and paying extra for a different one............. FREETRACK Newbie!!!!

Class : Moderator Posts : 656 Registered on : 16/11/2007 Off line	Hi, the SFH487P are Ø3mm instead of the Ø5mm SFH485. You can give them a try, but you need a good setup with your webcam- filter solution. Otherwise you will probably get problems when tracking the dots. Try to get the SFH485 from the net. What is your country?

Class : Apprenti Posts : 4 Registered on : 04/06/2013 Off line	I live in New Zealand and im using the VX 1000 with IR Filter removed and floppy disk on the lense and auto exposure is off and i tested it with the IR remote and im getting 30FPS with minimal jitter hope someone with that used the SFH857P is good, i only know one person that uses it and its all good from them (the post at the top) FREETRACK Newbie!!!!

Class : Apprenti Posts : 4 Registered on : 04/06/2013 Off line	alright, I have two options.......... buy the SFH485 (non-P) which is 5mm, this is not windeangle but i can file it down or buy the wideangle SFH487P which is only 3mm what is worth?? is having a 5mm LED worth over having a wideangle solution thank everyone for your EXTREME patience Edited by Python231 on 04/06/2013 at 08h29.
