Hi guys I'm new to free track and making my first ring, I am planning to power by USB 5volts, and bought these IR LEDs (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2253) I was speaking the the guy from the store and he recommend 27 Omes resistors, so as they was only 27p each I got them, but then I looked at the spec of the LEDs and it says the forward voltage is 5v, so do I need to put the resistors in line? Or not? Or maybe I have the wrong resistors?!

Any help appreciated,

Thanks

Look again. Forward voltage is 1.2V.

Only problem could be viewing angle which is 15. Maybe it is half-angle but it is still low. Consider flattening LEDs.

Resistor of 27Ohm is for serial connection. You had said in plural so I assumed you meant parallel.
