I have built the 3 LED hat model.    Used the same equipment as benmeijer's post

http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1856

3 LED infrared 5m
3 30 om res
2 AA for power.

Cam is a Logitech QuickCam 3000  (IF filter not removed, if it has one. )

I have never done this before and new to this sort of thing.  So it has been very entertaining and frustrating as well.   Just looking for a freetrack system that I can afford :P

Built the cap model mounted LEDs got it all wired in and gave it a go.

First thing was that I was not informed that these lights had to be seen by the cam lol
Took the hat down to the store and they checked out the wiring, all looked good, but it will not work.   End result the LEDs are broken...  Possibility of mounting the LEDs with a glue gun broke them by ?  heat, just not sure.   So got 3 more LEDs and while there used my power supply to test new LEDs  They worked fine.

Problem
1,  Cam will not pickup the LEDs.   (used new LEDs to test cam)
2, would the hot glue gun break the LEDs when mounting?
Lastly do I need to remove the IF filter, (if it has one) ?

Any help would be grateful

Use your digital camera (preview screen)  to see if the leds light up!

If the leds are OK, you should modify your webcam, or use a WiiMote and Bluetooth stick.

Did you use the SFH485P leds?

:snif:

Hi Benmeijer  Thanks for answering.     I have ran over to the tech shop and checked the LED's that I had not used, all OK ...  the LQC 3000 webcam I have here does not see the lights at all.   Good cam great test pic of room and dirty floor :P   Will be taking the WebCam apart tonight or in the morning.   I could not find any SFH485P LED's around.    Had to use k16-7306 infra-red 5mm  @$1.18  canadain.    Still no answer as to why the mounted ones are not working.  I did both testing on Cam pic as well as Freetrack just in case your program helped in some way

I've searched for a datasheet of your leds, but can not find one. Do you have a link to the leds you're using?

Remember, if you use other leds than I used in my setup (with SFH 485p)  the shorter leg of the led is almost negative. So maybe you've switched polarity ( + and -).
Also the Vf could be different.

To test if your webcam detects IR light, in Freetrack select 1 point model and point your tv-remote control to the cam while pressing a key on the remote control. See if the skull moves.....
