Hi there, I just got some radioshack #276-0143 ir leds and some 33ohm 1/2w resistors. I put one together and tested it on 1 AA and then 2AA but it didn't light. Am i missing something here? I do have the positive and neg right....Thanks....EDIT- ..They dont work with no resistor either. Are these bad leds ?

You won't see the light with the naked eye.  Use a camera to see the light like.  You can use a camera from a cell phone to see it.

I would love to know if you got this working. I just bought the exact same components from Radio Shack. I haven't had a chance to set it up yet.

i bought this exact same items, and i did get them working as far as lighting up, but they wont work with the program.

No matter what ive tried i cant get them to show up very well on the camera to move the head around.

I think there not bright enough. I use the C120 camera from logitec...and ive removed the IR filter, but still they either show up as huge blobs or not at all.

Im thinking the 33 Ohms resistor is too high, so it makes them not bright enough using just two AA batteries

Hi,
i use the same C120 camera and it works fine. Before feeding video stream to FreeTrack you should set it up correctly. FreeTrack's preview after threshold filter is very poor for this. For me the best way to do this was to use "Quick Capture" of "Logitech Webcam Software" for pure video stream evaluation. At the same time i found FT's camera settings panel more functional then LWS' one. Play around with settings like brightness/contrast/sharpness/gain. Also during video tweaking evaluate results with/without visible-light-cuttoff filter (e.g. floppy disk media). You should aim towards picture with your LEDs brightest but not overflood with IR light to cause lens flare (and other optical artifacts). When video is configured - feed it to FT and apply threshold.
See pic below
Hope it will help

hey thanks man for the reply...

Im sure everything you put would have helped me, But twice now i have followed the guide on here on removing the IR filter from the same camera
and twice i have messed up the picture of the camera..

Now all i see even under the capture picture is a huge blob....almost like the camera is like way out of focus, yet turning the focus thing does nothing.

I'm starting to think that the little glass thing they tell you to remove in the guide is not the IR filter, but actully the lens.

So im thinking that is why my IR lights are showing as huge blobs, cause there not in focus at all...

Oh well was worth a try to get a track ir type item for way less then the normal one...HeHe..

guess ill just have to go buy the real thing...

They really should remove that guide from here tho, as not all C120 cameras have this IR filter in the same spot or something, cause twice now ive ended up with a completly unfocused picture...Dont think wal-mart will take 2 cameras back lol...
