Hey everybody,

I already have a rig done, but the LED's aren't good, so I want to use these SFH485P, I have a a bicycle light battery case that fits 2 AAA batteries, do I need to use a resistor?
And I use my laptop webcam for it so do I need a filter, if so how can I make one that doesn''t have to be attached to it for ever (no I dont want to use tape for it)?

Hi Joery,

You definitely need a resistor otherwise your leds will surely break.
If you choose to connect the leds in parallel, as you probably will with only 2.4/3 volts from your batteries, you will need one resistor per led, as the schematic below:


     -----{VVV}-----|>|-----
    |                                 |
+--------{VVV}-----|>|----------
    |                                 |
     -----{VVV}-----|>|-----


I would recommend acquiring a separate webcam which you can do the IR mod on for this project. Good luck!

Thx for the replie, I''ve read that I need a 30 Ohm resistor for AA batteries, is this the same for AAA batteries?
What kind of CHEAP webcam do you recomend?

Yes AA and AAA batteries are the same in this respect. You can find a list of compatible webcams on this forum. Hard to say which one you should get; it depends on what your local store has to offer and their prices. Try to get the cheapest one that has good compatibility :)
