Hi, I've made the hat as per instructions and sorted the camera and read the help section but I'm still getting big red blobs and cannot get three small bright spots on screen, Help please.  Thanks.

Are you using red leds or IR leds?
Have you tried playing with the threshold in Freetrack? What about exposure settings for the webcam itself?
If you're using IR leds, do you have a visible light filter installed on your webcam to block out any ambient light that might be fighting Freetrack?

Unheck the zoom feature in the camera propertis...you will probably have to do it every time you start freetrack

Hi, using IR leds, yes got visible light filter and tried everything else and I do not have a zoom feature on my camera.  Still got big red blobs, if I knew how to get a picture of it I'd show you.  thanks, Jerryb.

Perhaps you're feeding your IR leds too much and making them over-bright?
Try using a larger resister (by larger, I mean a higher ohm value)

OK, refocused and now have three green lights but it's not really following my head movement, it's jumping all over the place.  What do I fiddle with next???

Are the 3 green lights (in lower right corner) constant? Even when you move your head? If so,then you have to set appropriate sensitivity (sliders in profile tab)

Hi, there is a possibility you're using the wrong point model.  For example, selected the 3 point parallel model (for headphone clipping) instead of the 3 point cap model in the program.  That's what happened to me, I'm embarrassed to say.

Very good , you spotted my deliberate mistake, now going to play with the sliders and see what happens.  Ta for the help, no doubt I'll be back with more problems soon, jerryb.
