Hello all. Beginner here still trying to mentally sort all this out.

Goal: WiiMote (as camera) + KENSINGTON 33348 Bluetooth USB 2.0 Adapter ( get data from Wiimote) + IR Pen (1 point ) + FreeTrack + No custom wiring/soldering

I guess the main questions is about the IR Pen from penteractice.us ( http://penteractive.us/  - very first item). I ASSume that it would work as my 1 point for FreeTrack. It is made for the Wiimote so I assume there wouldn't be any problems. Is that correct? Can anyone point me to a better penlight? I like the pen light idea because it runs on batteries.

Is there any fundemental flaw with this plan?
Is there any kind of Wiimote tutorial/walkthrough?

I will be running freetrack on a WinXP 32 bit machine with Arma1 ( bought through Steam).

Thanks for your time,
Mike

Also looking at the pens sold here:

I am just trying to start simple and then build up to the 3 point system.

I decided to ditch the IR Pen idea, and try to learn the basics of circuits. So far it's progressing.

I ordered the SFH485P IR LED's and I figure I can pick the rest up at radio shack.

I did find that the manual for FreeTrack 2.2 comes with a nice section on the Wiimote, but you have to download the software package to get that manual. I think the 2.1 manual is the one that you can download alone from the website.

So to me weight is the biggest factor, not battery life. So here is my problem. I want to use one AAA rechargeable battery w/ one SFH485P on a circuit. From reading the forums the IR LED operates on 1.5V but the AAA only produces 1.2V. Will this still work? Or do you have to meet 1.5V in order to have the IR LED to work?

Also what affect if any does a switch have on the circuit in terms of resistance and or Voltage?

Your battery voltage have to be greater than the Vf of the led!

So you must use at least 2x 1.2 V (= 2.4 V) rechargeables (AAA) to be sure the led's will work.

see my "easy build" topic ---> http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1856#11461
to see what resistors you need.

a switch in the circuit have no effect for resistance or voltage.

Thanks for the tips. I have been using your "Easy Build" thread quite a bit. It has been REALLY helpful. I basically used that thread as a model for my 1 point system, and I am going to copy it exactly when I build the 3point system. That thread is awesome.

I bought a battery holder that holds 2 AAA's and I got it the 1 LED up and running. Now just waiting to get my bluetooth adapter in to really get this project moving ;).

Thanks for your help and your thread.

Well got my 1 point wiimote freetrack system up and running. It was fairly easy to be honest. Everything worked the first time. Thanks to all the work put in by the FreeTrack software writers and the thread benmeijer created helped me get the LED up and running. I am now just tweaking the system.

THANK YOU!
Mike
