Well just got Free Track working last night and it was a breeze, I was expecting at least a few problems but nothing really went wrong.
I wasn't even sure if it was going to work from the start because I tried it without using LED's. I used reflectors cut from the silver band on a hi-vis vest and glued them on to plastic lugs cut from the plastic protector that covers the prongs on a new 3 pin plug. These were attached to some wire to form the shape of a 4 point set up, but to start with I only used 3 reflectors.
I was using a Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000 which I did nothing to, no removing of filters or placing anything in front of the lens, just took out the box and installed software.
Inside my PC I had an Akasa AK-178-GR 12" Cold Cathode (green) tube light that I no longer used so I set that up on top of my PC to provide a light source, I wasn't even sure if this would work either.
And that was it, started Free Track and 3 points detected no problem all very clean.
Decided to try out the software on IL 1946 and after some fine tuning got the settings that suited. I did find that I had to have the sensitivity in profile and global very low (about 0.2) for it not to shake on screen.
So over all delighted with this now.
I was always wary of trying this because I was unsure of wiring up LED's so never got round to doing it and I'm sure a lot of other people would be the same, but considering an alternative is to stick on a cheap Neon light powered by the PC this was so easy.
