Hello, I decided I want to create a freetrack system for myself.

I am still deciding wether I go with a WiiMote or a webcam.

Problem is... I live in Brazil, where EVERYTHING is expensive due to ultra high taxation.

I found the Microsoft VX-1000 webcam for R$110 (about U$ 50).

Its a little expensive for something that I will open and risk breaking... but oh well... AFTER I remove the IR filter... how well a camera works for GENERAL USAGE (that is, filming me during a chat?)

I mean... the price is a bit steep for using it ONLY with freetrack...

Well, the WiiMote is even more expensive (about U$90) and it cant film me... so how highly would you guys recommend it over a webcam, both in terms of freetrack usability (i heard it uses hardware to track... dunno how much processor power a webcam would suck from my Quad Q9300), but also in terms of OTHER THINGS I might be able to do with a WiiMote on the PC.

Thanks for the help

edit: just saw that the same store selling the MS VX1000 webcam for U$50, is also selling the A4Tech Pk333MB webcam for about U$40.

Uh... you have quad-core cpu and you're worried about one webcam + freetrack?

Let me put it this way,
I'm running freetrack (3 cap) + logitech quickcam pro 5000 on the following setup:
Vista Ultimate 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 ("OC'd" to 2,55 GHz from 2,1GHz)
6 GB RAM
and so on...

In my tests, Freetrack process takes up about 1-3 % of my cpu time when minimized. When maximized, it's around 3-8%. That's it. I doubt you'll have any issues with cpu speed, given that you have plenty of cores where those processes can run on free without interfering with say, the game you're running. :)
