Hello saied :)

Have a look in the Hardware FAQ, you'll find what you're looking for :

I don't think watch batteries are powerful enough...
Don't worry, it's really easy to get a system working...

- 2 batteries 1.5v
- 3 leds
Once you know which leds you have, use the calculator on the website to know which resistors to buy and that's it :) .

I don't really know about those batteries but I've never heard of someone using one of these.

If uou use 2 1.5v batteries, you put 3 V in the calculator. When you choose your leds, you look (or ask) for forward continuous current (usually between 20 and 100 mA) and for the forward voltage (usually  1.5V), then you've got all  you need for the calculator.

alright here is the LED i found at  radioshack.
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062565&tab=features
it tells u the forward voltage but not the continuous current.

also for the video with the LEDs throwies

thanks didja. appreciate it. if i can get this thing to be made by next week it would be awesome

Hi again,

I'm sorry, this IR led is not suitable for a FreeTrack use... The peak wavelenght is 940nm... We need around 880nm for FreeTrack...
I've been exploring this website but couldn't find a good IR led on it... If you really want to buy on this website, go for this one (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102849 ) because it's wide angle... Unfortunately, it's not IR...
If you search on other websites, try to fin the SFH485P IR led, it's the best one for FreeTrack !

I use those Radio Shack LED's and they work just fine. Flatened the tops with 220 grit sandpaper and run on a MS VX3000 web cam without modification.

Those LED's are rated 1.2v, 100ma, 45 degree viewing angle

Wich one, the IR led with a 940nm wavelength ?

The problem with those leds is that sometimes, the wavelength can't get through the IR filter or the webcam just can't see this range of infrared light. But with some webcams, it'll work fine, but that's why we usually unrecommend it.

Correct.

RadioShack #276-0143
Hi-output 5mm I/R LED
1.2v, 100ma, 45degree, 940nm

Works fine for me with a unmoded MS VX3000 web cam.

I can confirm same ascertion above that these Radio Shak IR LEDs work fine with my setup.

3 point clip
3 RadioShak IR LEDS
Sanded flat to allow wider viewing angle
9 volt battery, with resistors as calculated by your FreeTrack model calculator
MS vs3000 web-cam, with IR filters removed
Visible Light filter applied (made from floppy disk) in place.

This setup really works pretty darn well!  Kudos to all you who built and work on FreeTrack.  Its really pretty amazing stuff!  I started this as an 'experiment' to see if I could get it to viably work, and it sure does!  For about $20 investment in parts.

The only time I have any trouble is when my battery power runs low and the LED's output wanes.  At this point its prone to stutters and the cam just isn't picking up enough IR radiation from the LEDS.  Solution, replace/recharge battery.

Otherwise, though I'm having great luck with this.!
