Great! This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank god someone has taken the time to build these for people like me who are completely useless with anything electronic My paycheck comes in tomorrow so I should be ordering then (I'm in the UK)
I just have a quick question, (I don't have time to read the whole topic so sorry if it's a repeat! ) Do I need to remove the IR filter from my webcam or anything? I have an iKasu something-or-other and a Logitech EyeToy if it makes any difference. Thanks! |

To Ratty:
Yes, you will probably need to remove the ir filter. Also, I have noticed that logitechs tend to use more cpu than other webcams. But I have a small cpu, and most people with their dual cores don't see much difference. To Mr man: Whats your first name and country? I can let you know when I sent it and when you can expect it. Thanks everyone! Marcus

It fits perfectly. |

Hi! These look really cool, but I've never used an LED cap before and have one simple question:
From the pics you've shown, it seems that the LEDs are fitted UNDER the brim of the cap. I'm just a little concerned that I might get some of that bright LED light shining into my eyes, which might not be healthy, and also that being under the cap they would be more likely to cause reflections on my monitor. So what have your experiences been with them, are they problem-free in these two areas? Thanks! EDIT: I just went to the order page and read that the LED's emit no visible light. Awesome! But now I wonder if the brim of the cap might be prone to blocking the light of the LEDs from reaching the camera? Let me know if that ever happens when you use them. Thanks, bye!

Picked it up from post office today. Its brilliant works alot better then the one I made. Getting the profile and camera setup is the hardest part I think. Got one of those cheap trust ones from tescos and took the IR filter out. Used a peice of over exposed film inside to block some light. In a dark room I can get constant 30fps and no jitters. Find in FSX I have to turn off z axis if not Im always outside the airplane.
To answer your last Q sillysilly: Yes some times when you look to far down the brim can hide the LED's. Just set sensitivity for pitch a tad higher and it compensates. Also if you're gentle you can pull them out a bit as there is some play in the wires length. BTW thank you very much Marcus. Looking at the label on the box, god damn you have a long name |

To Ratty,
Already had your hat made on the 10th ratty, or nathan is it? I will send it out tomorrow. I was wondering when you'd get around to pay me, lol. To Mikey: Yes, I have 26 letters in my name. If I lose my birth certificate, I have to order a custom one. Normal one's only have 25 letters. To All: If anyone out there finds anyone else out there named Zebadiah, I want to know about it. So far, I'm the only one.

I always liked the look of that webcam... I could hack off the leds on it and make 2 caps, and have the camera to use as well.

Hey Marcusw, I absolutely love the hat. I purchased one about a week ago and got it in on saturday. Finally got around to getting everything setup and hooked up to work today and it's pretty cool.
I got everything working great with the software and everything calibrated to run with IL2 . Very awesome product. Thanks! ~Reuben

***ATTENTION POTENTIAL BUYERS***
I have ran my supplier completely out of stock on leds. They won't have anymore until september 26th, so I'm looking for a replacement led until they arrive. I currently have enough to make about 6 more caps until I get more leds. If you have ordered up to this point, don't worry, I've already shipped yours out. I can still fill orders until I post and say otherwise, so nothing has changed yet, just thought I'd let you all know. Thanks, Marcus

Hi Marcusw,
Just stumbled into the world of 6dof after digging out my old Saitek x36. TrackIR seemed a bit pricey, but your cap and the amazing work the guys are doing on free-track is too good to miss. Hopefully you still have enough bits n pieces to build a hat for me (just ordered... *fingers crossed). If not, I have a good excuse to brush up on my auto-rotations! Just a thought on webcam; I have a Sony DCR-TRV22 Mini DV camcorder that works as a USB webcam. It also has a 'NightShot' mode which emits an IR beam to capture video (ok, it's in green...hahaha). I wonder if this would be a viable alternative to my Logitech QuickCam 4000? Looking forward to trying out the cap Regards, Stoley. |
