If it has a slight purple colour, it must be.

But did you test first if you can use the camera without removing the filter?
My Logitech camera works fine without removing it, a piece of floppydisk taped before the lens is enough to filter out all other light and my IR leds are picked up fine.

Another quastion:

What is the different between the 3 and the 4 leds configuration?

assumption:

Maybe the 4 leds configuration gives more direction of movments?
I saw in FS2004 that the AXIS: Yaw, Pitch, Roll and Z could use.
What about The X and Y axis?

4 emitter is an obsolete design. The 3 point configurations work as well, if not better than the 4 point.
