hi everyone,
just a few days ago, i construct my free track hardware, but it still dosen´t work right now.
my problem:
freetrack detect my ir-dioden basically, but when i turn my head, the virtuell head go insane. sometimes it works a bit, but freetrack never detect, when i turn my head to the left.

what is here the problem?
the settings of freetrack?
the ir-diode ?
my webcam?

i have bought me a "Logitech Quickcam Chat" webcam. i´ve read that some webcam´s have an ir-filter build in and that this ir-filter should be build out.

maybe someone here can help me please,
i would be glad.

regards,
darion

hello darion

seems this is a led beam angle related problem.

Do you know your led model , or are they "plain IR leds" ?

If they're narrow beam leds, you can widen the beam by sanding the led case flat near the chip inside of the case.

I´ve read that some webcam´s have an ir-filter build in

Basically EVERY webcam has a builtin IR filter. This filter is needed for normal operation of the webcam.

this ir-filter should be build out

You only seldom HAVE TO ir-mod your webcam. But IR leds work far better with an Ir modded webcam.

It's your choice.

My hint would be :
- try without modding your webcam, since once modded, the webcam isn't suited for "standard use" anymore
- If it works well, stay with an unmodded webcam.

regards

Hello Darion :

According to what you said in your first message , you should in at first simply sand your IR leds, and try again.

If it doesn't solve your prob, then it's still time to unmount your webcam's IR filter.

just my 2 cents opinion  ^^

cya.
