I bought some 940Nm Leds and had to sand down the rounded top..

The surface finish is a flat and sort of opaque and I'm wondering if the plastic has to be polished in order for this to work...

My gigaware webcam can only see them if I hold the led about 6 inches in front of the camera..  it shows up as a white circle.  (Using floppy disk over lense)

Hi,

you can polish them with 600 sandpaper, light opaque surface isn't bad. Try to use another daylight-filter then the floppy disk, as this one is to strong for some webcam.

Thanks,

I used a table top belt sander to grind them down but the finish is a dull white color due to the sandpaper.

I'm just wondering if polishing is needed for some reason.. I know they sell diffusers for leds that increase the viewing angle and they're sort of a frosted finish.
