Hi Community!,
Im using the Phillips Toucam Pro (PVC840K). Ive bought it only for freetrack, because the webcam has a high framerate of 60fps. Unfortunately Freetrack allows only 30fps.. but therefor with a resolution of 640x480 ! The webcam is no more available in the shops, only at ebay for circa 40 Euro. It works very well with Freetrack, theres no Jittering in the games like i had before with the cheap camera STV0680. STV0680 (320x240 15fps cheap) Phillips Toucam Pro (PVC840K) (640x480 CCD-Camera! 60fps ca.40Euro) Thanks for Freetrack, Greetings Nils |

Freetrack can handle more than 30fps (uses more cpu, unless the quality is reduced).
What sort of jitters? Jitters while stationary (due to image noise)? Jitters while panning (due to variable frame rate)? |

Hi all,
thanks for a fantastic piece of software! Works perfectly with a Microsoft LifeCam VX-3000, 4xIR LED's without IR filter on the webcam for now. Running @30FPS at 320x240. Price was about $50 but I've seen it as low as $35. Computer is: Above mentioned webcam Biostar 965PT mainboard 2GB RAM Intel E6300 Core 2 Duo (OC'ed to 2.8GHz) Windows Vista Had to use MMX filter as SSE filter would generate massive amount of 'Unexpected Error at address XXXXXXX'. Again, thank you for producing such a cool program and documentation for free!!! Best regards Troels (Denmark)

Trust Webcam WB-1400T
Low Price (12 Euros in Germany) Works great with Freetrack with constant 30 FPS, if you disable the auto-exposure feature of the Camera and i had to use the FreeTrackFilter which one can download here on the website. Tested the Camerra so far with IL-2 and rFactor with an 3-LED Infrared + IR Filter (Photo Negative over the lens as described in the Manual) setup and it works like a charm. |

Philips Toucam Pro 2 is not for sale anymore, but u can find it used in ebay or somewhere else.
Original cost 80€ circa (Used, between 40 and 50€ circa) resolution from 160x120 to 1280x1024 60fps @ 320x240 30fps @ 640x480 15fps @ 1280x1024 compression method i420 and IYUV (no RGB) Even whit autoexposure checked this webcam gives always 30-32 fps constant. When setted to 60fps with autoexposure, maintains always 60-61fps constantly!! Best webcam ever tried Minimized Freetrack CPU Usage @ 30fps(IYUV) --- from 2% to 8% Minimized Freetrack CPU Usage @ 30fps(i420) --- from 2% to 4% Minimized Freetrack CPU Usage @ 60fps(IYUV) --- from 10% to 17% Minimized Freetrack CPU Usage @ 60fps(i420) --- from 8% to 12% (tracking quality improvement @60fps is pratically not noticeable) optimal work with freetrack! Tust WB 1400 T vs Logitech Quickcam Express.
Hi all, I've tested these two cams with FT 2.0 and this is my experience: - TRUST: about 14 € -> 26 fps average - IR MODDED - very good responsiveness - drivers can save settings ( VERY USEFULL !! ). Some jitters during image panning within X-Plane, just a little bit smoother with FS2004 ( PPJoy emulation ). - LOGITECH: about 20 € -> 30-31 fps average - NO IR MODDED - not so good responsiveness as Trust - drivers DO NOT save settings ( everytime reset to default...). Some jitters during image panning within X-Plane, just a little bit smoother with FS2004 ( PPJoy emulation ) -> so no difference between Trust. IMHO, these cams are a good starting point for FreeTrack, maybe Trust WB1400T has a better value for the money. This is my hardware: -AMD Athlon 64 3800+ -2Gb DDR RAM -NVidia GeForce 7600 GT - 256 Mb VRAM. -USB 2.0 Bye !

Logitech Quickcam Messenger
Logitech Quickcam Messenger Price : around 15 euros Freetrack use : 30 FPS / good response Remarks : - the quickcam driver allows to install only driver, without bundled software (good thing) - the webcam view angle is a bit narrow (IMO), so you'll have to put it somewhat farther of the head, to have a correct working field (ok) - the driver switches to autoexposure each time you start the cam (not good) - Very easy to mod for IR only mode : unscrew case, unscrew piece of plastic housing around the cmos chip, pop out IR filter set in plastic housing, install piece of photographic film or radiographic sheet in same place, screw plastic housing, screw case, Done !!

VIMICRO 301 - Cheapest webcam around?
COST -As low as £6 GBP (9EUR) including P&P on eBay PERFORMANCE -28fps @ 320x240 on manual exposure setting 1 (minimum) -Very good field of view - enough to allow for a lot of horizontal translation. -RGB24 only. MODIFICATIONS REQUIRED -No IR filter is fitted, so just need to add a photo negative. Lens easily removed (screw fit) to attach negative on inside of lens if desired. ISSUES -Adjusting camera settings in Freetrack causes Freetrack to freeze on my PC. Adjusting camera settings in packaged application 'Amcap' works perfectly (done once per boot, takes 5 seconds!) OTHER NOTES -Has 6x IR LEDs fitted, controlled by a photoresistor through a hole in the top of the camera - tape over this hole and the LEDs are always on! -I don't have any very reflective tape, but using white electrical tape I was able to get the tape to appear noticably brighter than my head at 50cm distance only at the best angle... I think it should work with good tape, but I cannot say for sure. TEST RESULTS: Tested with setup: 3 LED Clip (SFH485P LEDs @ ~ 80mA) Tested in Orbiter, Aces High 2, Condor Soaring Simulator. With exposure set to minimum there is no detectable lag, no stuttering* and all movements are tracked extremely smoothly and reliably. *Orbiter required setting to 'Low' priority to prevent stuttering, but I think this is related to the program & not the camera. SETTINGS (for use with bright LEDs): First time: ------------- Run 'AMCAP' (Included with webcam software) and click Options -> Video Capture Filter. Set settings as in this image Click 'Save' (top right button) and close AMCAP. Then start Freetrack Every other time (after reboot): ------------- Run 'AMCAP' (Included with webcam software) and click Options -> Video Capture Filter. Click 'Restore' - settings should automatically be the same as above. Close AMCAP, start Freetrack.
