It's great to read everything about Freetrack here.

I like to build my own configuration but ....before taking the final decision, I would like to know if Freetrack, in combination with a (modified) PS 3 eye and a superior 3 point, can perform as good as TI5. And if not, in which way I can expect difference in  performance?

I'm going to use my Freetrack purely for FSX with the add-ons Discus-X and Cumulus and possibly EZDOK .

(Win 7, 32 bits, i3CPU 2,93GHz, l2-cache 512 KB, 4096MB, NVIDIA GeForce 330).

I don't know how TrackIr is performing but today I got FreeTrack working and .....I love it! :p
