This is the original "3 points" from TrackIR, has no LEDS, it has reflectors. So if i put a battery of IR Leds in the top of monitor, near webcam looking cap and the 4 points reflectors... will it work? Or is necessary to put LEDS on a cap? The price of this "Vector Clip" is 9,95$ in naturalpoint.com Anyone has tried it? |

Is not necessary to use leds,
if u paint yourself and your room in black, you can use only 3-4 piece of white paper...or if u have an infrared illuminator, and 3-4 retro reflective pieces the camera will see only the retro reflective pieces....but Where to buy ir illuminator? or is better a webcam ir with 6 infrared leds like ODYS ? When someone that own this kind of webcam or illuminator, will give a try, we will know for sure.

Just remove the IR filter from the webcam, build/buy an IR light source to shine on reflectors and buy some retroreflective material. The reflectors must be circular.

OK
As Suggested by Kestrel.... ....try to build an IR light source to shine on reflectors and a circular piece of reflective material. So we need also ...a battery pack (2x1,5v) What kind of leds to buy and where? How many leds an illuminator needs? maybe 4 as in the trackir? or we need 6-8 leds? At the end of the work the goal is to obtain a screen like this in Freetrack.

I already built something like a edimensional vector following dimension suggested by freetrack, and it work perfectly.
I have a webcam with 2 infrared led pointed in front of me and I used a reflecting stripe removed from an emergency jacket. System work better without ir filter but if you have so light in the room will be a problem. |

Did you follow an online guide? How did you break it? |

No, I tried using a plastic glass ir filter removed from an old VCR.
I was installed in front of remote ir sensor. Do you think a negative photo-film work better? |

It does different things. The IR filter blocks IR light. We need the pfoto film to ONLY allow IR light to the sensor. |

I've never tried to use the plastic from a vcr, but with the photo film you can add several layers of film until the webcam see only the reflective parts, and surely doesn't block ir rays in input and return.
I'm making a test with an 8 IR leds illuminator..I'll let u know

Experiment just finished!
it works fine for me. I've used an ir illuminator with 8 leds, it's a camera for home video surveillance system like this A little reflective piece stolen from an emergency jacket And my webcam Philips Toucam Pro without ir filter This is the result Light condition of the room in the image is a normal strong desk lamp turned against the wall for a diffused light, with the room's chandelier on, the result does not chenge! Obviously if I turn the desklamp on my face my webcam loose the point and all my clear face parts are visible in the screen, but this is no more a test but a suicide...as far as I know, trackir could not be used correctly with too much light in the room. I'm satisfied, but now I must build an ir illuminator
