I went out and asked for the resistor and came back with a resistor with the following bands:

orange - black - black - gold - brown

He told me this was correct but thought I should check with you guys first, don't want to fry my leds!

Orange black black is 30 ohms
gold is for 5%

This resistor is ok for your settings, at led max settings, you can go for it.

If during your tests your note your leds are really bright in the cam video, you can still increase the resistor value a bit.
That 'll decrease the current and increase the battery life.



FIY, since 100ma is a max value for the SFH485, you can use them with lower current settings, ie 50mA.
It's usually still ok with that current.

Yeah, no that much current is needed.

I have these leds:
Vishay TSUS540

These leds are actually blue colored (still IR) not clear. The leds were too bright, so I lowered the current to 25mA now the system is working perfectly.
No more current is needed for these!

The system power requirements can be dramatically lowered like this... like 50% of the original.

Great, thanks. It's all up and running perfectly now (in Freetrack :D).

Just need to work out how to use it in FSX, at the moment it's not doing anything. :(

Ah, solved that problem. Have just set up a profile so all axis can be used and it's flawless! I can move to the side and look out down the side of the aircraft.

I bulit my 3point clip according to the wizard specs for 5 volts, with the recommended Osram IR Leds of the manual.

I bought a USB standard plug, soldered the +5V wire to pin 1, ground to pin 4, 2 and 3 not used. You have to plug it to a POWERED USB HUB to be safe. Works like a charm!
