Maybe you should try installing a USB 2.0 expansion PCMCIA card. My VX-1000 suffers from bandwidth problems when I use a few other USB devices (on the same bus), which results in frame rates below 30...

It still sound/reads to me as you got to do something about your webcam settings
YOU HAVE to turn off EVERY THING in your cam-software that does AUTOMATIC. and set the exposure to 1/30(s) or more depending light sensetivity on the webcam.
then
You have to adjust Contrast/brightness to compensate for the "to many crosshairs". the Threshold is only for tweeking/fine tuneing.
Please confirm you got that done right.

Yes,
I have done everything previously as you have mentioned.
Light, settings. I've tried all that.
I'm not at all to worried anymore. If one day I'm screwing around with it and it works then cool, but in the mean time I've found other things to do.
I appreciate the help everybody has tried to give and I understand that nobody has all the answers.
I'll still probably check back now and then but as you can see from this response it won't be immediate.
