depends on having enough blur in the optics to get soft blobs of a considerable number of pixels instead of sharp dots, this is not so good if you have so few pixels to start with.

The apparent tracking resolution certainly decreases significantly when the sensor sensitivity is reduced. Consequently I have the sensor sensitivity set as high as possible which gives excellent results, remarkable given the true sensor resolution. Also, the high frame rate allows for frames to be sacrificed for smoothing in order to improve the sub-pixel resolution further, without losing much responsiveness.

As this open hardware project is meant for 2/3/4-point Wiimote head tracking - VR projects (monoscopic and stereoscopic) do you think it can be used for FreeTrack 2.2 gaming control as well ?
It can be used with either 3 LEDs in the tracking arc OR with up to 9 LEDs in the Wiimote mount, illuminating up to 4 retroreflective markers to avoid cables and batteries on your head.

I actually thought the white board idea was pretty good with the wii, but i really want to figure out how to do that with free track. I have my webcam set up for this, and don't want to get a wii just to do the whiteboard.

Freetrack has way more capabilities, and a webcam has better resolution, as long as you move slow and deliberately to make up for the fps. Getting a wii to do a similar task would be redundant.

Any ideas how i can acomplish a whiteboard setup with freetrack? I know I would have to use the single point setup, but i'm not sure how to capture the data from freetrack.

P.S. I made my 8 year old daughter a 3 point cap with the entire rig stitched into the hat. What hat you ask? A bright pink "Hanna Montana" ball cap. Its adorable on her. :) And she took to it quicker than i did. She'll be an excellent pilot one day...

My daughter is also a Hanna fan.. Maybe you can post a pic of the hat as well as the whiteboard link..

As for the wii controller is there any way to at least use it as a steering wheel or something like that for playing pc games ?

absolutely, you needed glovepie. then you can use the accelerometer to so you can hold the device like a steering wheel. I'm not sure of the steps, but youtube has a lot on it. I will post an image of my daughter's hat when I get a chance.

I really agree with you. Me too, I am always check for the sensor sensitivity rate to get the best resolution.

This cannot be used for freetrack, because all the leds are in one plane, you will need to make them non-planar. Check the distances in free track software

Any news on the issue with the WiiMote not letting freetrack "Start" the IR camera?  I've got my setup ready to go, but can't get the WiiMote to work with FreeTrack on any machine I have.  Tried XP and 7 32 and 64 ... all have the same issue.  Grey'd start button.  Tried to install Bluesoleil and it caused some issues with my Win 7 64 machine, so that's not an acceptable solution for me.

SmoothBoard works just fine on this machine, so it seems to be an issue directly related to FreeTrack's use of the WiiMote.

hey, i have a problem, for freetrack, i got my wii mote and everthing working just fine. I pickeed the wii remote as source than i press start. It started. On the left i see a skull and on the right i see a black screen with a cross but i dont see any reddot. I shined my led at the remote and it still have no reddot. But when i shine my red dot laser at it, it picked up sumthing. (im using those laser pointer thing with an led torch.)

Hi!  does anyone use the Wiimote with Free Track finally ? I still can't connect my wiimote to Free Track, but with other software like Dolphin wiimote works perfectly.
So, does it mean in 2 years Free Track developers had no success (or no time) with Wiimote at all?
