Perfect,
my webcam work wery well with just 2 leds installed onboard. I can try to add a leds just to enlarge the zone illuminated by ir. Led installed on my webcam have a very narrow illumination angle. When I told about room illumination, I referred to sunlight. I have a window side by monitor and in these condition half of my face is illuminated and freetrack loose the tracking. I'm very satisfied as freetrack and the webcam works, differences with trackir are very few  |

The test with the daylight, is not so good as with artificial light.
Today is a cloudy day, and the sunlight is not strong...in these conditions Freetrack loose the tracking because the windows on my left enlight my face. Tuning the Threshold doesn't help. Now I ask my self...how come trackir can be used in daylight condition?  |
You have to use as many layer of IR film as needed to make your webcam totally blind to other kind of light. This means that you may need to use brighter illumination too. (but I do not know if it is filtering some of the ir light too or not) My 3 led-clip setup works equally at day and night. |

I am wating for "wii sense bar" i think that i will has in my home in 2 or 3 days.
I has tested with a new webcam without IR filter and a film photo filter, using a remote TV control to iluminate. The results are not bad, but i need more IR ligth. I think that if i put a great IR iluminator i will can usea Freetrack in the ligth of the day with any problems |

How about just buying an infrared web cam and then using reflectors? IR web cam like Opticam 1.3M Messenger Infrared maybe.

This setup seems much simpler than having leds and wires on my head  It seems all we would need to do is: 1) Buy an infrared cam just like Opticam 1.3M Messenger. Seems a good choice since it has 6 LEDs. 2) Disassemble the cam and get rid of the IR filter. 3) Stick 2 or 3 layers of film in front of the lens. 4) build the reflectors just like Track IR. Is it just that or am I crazy? Did anyone tried that? |

Okay, i've built a reflective setup, which can be seen here:
http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=466&message=3827 Obviously, it was inspired by TrackIR vector expansion  All points are seen perfectly in FT, but they're also quite big compared to LEDs seen trough the webcam. And this seems to cause a bit of a problem - FT seems to have some trouble interpreting big rectangular spots - even though they're seen as continuous FT sometimes interprets one spot as two, or ignores it at all. Also, even when it does interpret the reflection properly, its reported position (marked by the cross) is usually somewhere around its edges (not in the center), and isn't steady - it jumps all around the reflection area. A temporary solution was to reduce the webcam resolution so that the spots seen by FT are smaller and easier to interpret. But on the other hand, that reduces tracking accuracy. So i guess that making FT fully usable with retroflective setups (including the vector expansion from NaturalPoint) will require some additional work on locating centers of points seen by camera when they're rectangular instead of round and bigger than LEDs. How about putting that on the wishlist for next FT release? |
