I have 75 fps just because i set the refresh screen at 75hz, so no tears when i look around. I'm very satisfied with it.

Performance would be comparable, I think, as both provide more then 60 fps! But ps3eye should be more accurate - it supports 640x480 resolution, when wii supports only 128x90. Ps3eye has a wide ange of view 75 degrees, while wii only standard 41 degrees, ps3eye do not need bluetooth connections and batteries.
Look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeTrack#Camera I really want that magic ps3eye - but not sure if there is no problems under WinXP now.

Just bought new PS3 eye! It's Awesome with FreeTrack!!!! Steady 100-125 fps at 340x240 and nice 75 fps at 640x480!!!
Wide FOV - 75 degrees (no distortion) - track my head at positions where no more camera does!!! (including TrackIR cams) It's incredible! Original TrackIR has only 47 to 56 degrees. Low CPU load 3-7% at 125 fps, 1 to 3% at 60 fps (Core 2 duo E6750 2,66 GHz on WinXp) ----------------- It seems to me, we have a solution which outperform original and overpriced TrackIR! 1) First, I've disassembled the cam, removed IR filter and inserted visual one made of floppy film. Instructions are here: http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/4189/ It is not too easy, so you can just wipe the IR layer out with alcohol as shown in a topic: http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=2816 2) Installed Code Laboratories Windows driver for PS3 eye (http://codelaboratories.com/products/eye/driver/) as it is said by "slaver1" here, at the head of the topic. 3)Patched FreeTrack 2.2.0.279 with optimized filters from http://www.sendspace.com/file/2stcof (BTW, advised for all users, thus it makes extra 2-3 fps to every ordinary camera) 4) Choose Stream, then set desired FPS in Frame Rate tab of FreeTrack. 5) Enjoyed IL2, Arma2, Ka50!!!! Really fast, accurate movement without a smallest lag, glitches or loosing track from extremly close positions!!!! Thanks FT developers, thanks CodeLaboratories, tnx Slaver1!!! The only thing I didnot make work, - internal microphones. They are noisy right now, and almost impossible to use. Probbably its a driver issue.

Why no one share my emotions???
-------------------------------------------------- Nevetheless Another thing I've discovered: Lens and sinsitivity of CMOS chip are great!!! I use 2xAA batteries with 3Clip with 1,2V 50mA LEDs. Now only 0.65 Volts remains in batteries and current drops below 12 ma through every LED. But camera still track them!!!! The dots a pretty round. With my previous A4Tech camera, I had to tune gain and exposion very often in order to get proper dots while batteries wear. This cam provides good shaped dot in wide range of batteries status. Quite comfortable!

Also I have solved a problem of "dead" PS3 eye built-in microphone under XP. I've asked for help at http://codelaboratories.com/forums/viewthread/484/ but solved it myself finally.
The problem is Incorrect CL driver installation under WinXP when Audio DeviceMatchingID named as class_01 is wrong Fixing procedure: 1) Search register values for string “usb\class_01” (without quotes). It will be found somewhere in HKLM\System\ControlSet001\Control\Class\....\.... node in a key named MatchingDeviceId 2) change string value of this key from "usb\class_01" to "usb\Vid_1415&Pid_2000&MI_01" (without quotes) 3) unplug then plug again USB connector of a camera. Now microphone should work flawlessly Probably it may help othes

Yeah the ps3eye runs MUCH better then my VX3000 ever did. I'm actually kinda happy someone ruined that webcam and forced me to switch.
Thank you for the solution |

Could you be more detailed for us noobs. How and where to search register values? How you get this "Vid_1415&Pid_2000&MI_01" maybe is different to different tips of camera if it is camera related at all? Cheers. |
