Try just with other webcamsoftware .... maybe that software see the webcam. Just try to start FreeTrack.

What is your OS ? XP or Vista

I've on my (Windows XP) PC also something called amcap.exe, when I start it you can select a device..... But for Freetrack i don't have to start it.

I have Vista 64, it's odd, i've installed the webcam driver, but in Device manager, it says that there is no driver installed.

Edit: nevermind, i got windows to search for the driver on the internet for me and it found a good one. It seems to work alright now! =)!

Hmm, the webcam seems to work really well, i have all the settings perfect, and now i'm in the process of configuring the Free Track software. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to actually get it working with Black Shark though. There's no profile for it, and i can't seem to find info searching on the internet.

Ok, so it appears as though you use PPJoy to create a virtual joystick (your head), so you can then assign its axes to movements within the game options directly.

However! It looks like i'm completely buggered as it doesn't work on a 64 bit operating system, and i'm unsure if it even works on Vista. And i have Vista 64. Bloody wonderful.

Today is a sad day

That really sucks, but can you get that far for Free Track to work, i mean, does your setting work? Does the free-track head moves the way you do ?

Although it does not seem to work for your gaming experience now :(

Yeah it works flawlessly inside the program. I can't believe they would write such an elaborate program, and then rely on a really outdated piece of software

So your webcam sends a broad spectrum of IR light, that is reflected on your cap and that is seem with your webcam?

Would love to see soms screenshots of the setting your working with and some screenshots.. doe the normal light in your doesnt interfere with the setting you are using?

You don't need to use joystick emulation to get head tracking in DCS:

So you're saying i can use the webcam and everything i've bought and constructed with this?

Knights: I'm basically using the settings shown here: http://www.free-track.net/images/filter_removal/zaelu_a4tech_pk333mb_03.jpg

My freetrack settings seem to get slightly changed or reset whenever i restart my machine though, no idea what's going on there.

Here is a screenshot of my interface, note the three red dots being tracked

http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll106/misterscales/Freetrack.png?t=1236192059

And nope, i get no interference from any other light source at all, but my room has only a skylight, it's quite gloomy in here. All the light sources are out of the webcam's field of view generally. If i hold my hand up quite close to the camera, my skin reflects the IR light and i get this interesting red interpretation of my fingers, which are locked onto and tracked in the application.

Yeah i have actually managed to get it working, but to be honest, i rather dislike it. it's really hard to keep the screen steady, and my framerate /really/ plummets, so as a result my view jumps around a lot, making it even harder to fly. I haven't managed to find any decent settings so far. It would be really nice if i could get some from a player who's spent a lot of time tweaking it, as I don't really get some of the settings.

Currently my neck really hurts anyway as i think i have got the flu, so it's a pretty uncomfortable experience.

Also, my view doesn't remain centred for some reason. Like, at the start i'll be sitting normal, and facing forward and my view will be straight. But after a while of looking around, if i assume the same straight sitting position, my view will have drifted and be at some annoying angle, so i have to then move my head in that direction in order to get it straight again.

Man, i wish i had better news to report. Perhaps i'm just doing it wrong.

Edit: oh wait a sec, turns out my webcam was experiencing chronically low framerates for some reason, after checking out this thread (http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1515) i've managed to get it from like 10FPS back to 30, i didn't even notice it was so low. It's odd that the FT program doesn't save these things after i reboot. it's a lot better now :) Yaay!

Wow, i just completed a whole mission using the headtracking hat, i am stoked, it is ace fun! Reeeeally handy for keeping track of your target with turning and maneuvering.

I say i completed the mission, but as soon as i touched down on the helipad my X52's joystick came unplugged (which happens a lot with this stupid joystick), and so my chopper went full speed ahead, driving off of the pad and plowing into a fuel truck, at which point the game crashed LOL!

It's proper weird coming back to the real world and taking the hat off. It's like you get used to having to elaborately move your head to look around, so you move your head around more than you would normally just doing every day tasks for a bit. I did at least :P

I still need to tweak my settings a bit

Awesome.  Im glad you have it working now Vanguard.  Did you find what was causing your view to lose its center?  Hey do you feel like posting a video of a mission or part of a mission on youtube and link us to it here?
