Logitech WebCam C250h - North America, USA - Walmart If you are planning to use IR-Leds (highly recomended) you will have to remove the IR filter. This is what I had mine set at with backlighting and lights in the room turned on. Also install everything that is on the CD this way your settings will not change. My results are specific to my rig as I have custom built it maybe you guys will get the same results as I did then again if you have a prebuilt rig (walmart, bustbuy, Dell computer) then chances are you wont. Logitech WebCam C250h - North America, USA - Walmart 30 FPS - Constant 0 Jitter - Constant 640x480 i420 IR Filter removed (easy to remove instuctions to follow for this model) Instructions for IR-Filter Removal: 1. Make sure the camera is not pluged in 2. With use of a jewel flat tip screw driver remove rubber cover on the right side as camera lens facing you. 3. With a jewel philips head remove crew. 4. Gently pull the right side grey cover away from camera center. 5. Gently pull left side grey cover away from center making sure the snap shot button does not fall off as there is a spring in it. 6. On the back side of the circuit board there are 4 black screws remove them and then remove lens cover (black center). 7. Unscrew camera lens. 8. With extream caution and gentel pulling, Remove black bracket off the cicuit board. This is glued on but it will adhear back to circuit board no need for extra glue. 9. Once the black bracket is removed flip it over and push IR filter out of bracket. Replace parts as neccesary, Make sure you take good care to place the black bracket into position as it has 2 screw mounts on its base and must align with the holes in the circuit board. FreeTrack 2.2 Settings: 1. Pin Properties - i420, 640x480, 30 2. Frame Rate tab under black test box - 30 FPS, Auto Multiplier 3. Point Size tab under black test box - Min diameter 2, Max diameter 30 4. Orientation tab under black test box - not configured (didnt mess with it ) 5. Calibration tab under black test box - Sensor Width 3.0 mm, Focal Length 3.7 mm 6. Camera Properties - Brightness 0, Contrast 2400, Saturation 0, Sharpness 0, White Balance 0 (uncheck auto), Backlight Comp 1 7. Global Axis adjustments - Sensitivities 1.5 (ALL AXIS), Smoothing 100 (ALL AXIS), Zoom Smoothing Multi 1 EDIT: Well the cam was working then it stoped working with free track and when I start free track it doesnt see any light. I thought I had read some where were you could change from SSE2 to something different to make it work, dunno if that will help me or not. I know the camera works but free track isnt picking up any light at all dunno what the issue would be. Maybe my Operating system Windows XP Professional 64 Bit. I think that free track doesnt support Windows xp x64. EDIT AGAIN: I Intalled the FaceTrackNoir and now my free track works flawlessly I dont get why it would work perfectly now but it does. then again it may fail after awahile.

I have been uning my Wiimote with great success so i decided to try this one: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29592 which i picked up cheap from deal extreme.
I was surprised that it registered as a wiimote in the toshiba bluetooth stack, freetrack picked it up ok and it was tracking my IR LEDs well. Problem was that the resolution of the camera seems a bit smaller than the genuine wii remote, the main reason i would not recommend it is that the camera seems to pick up points of light that are not there, they occasionally flash up just above or below my real LEDs and cause some unpredictable motion.

I modified i-Tec iCam talker - removed ir filter and put filter from floppy disk. Works good - 30fps up to 640x480 with these setings:
I420, usb bandwidth 8, exposure 0, outdoor, disabled zoom |

This Cam is bit tricky to handle, I didn´t find a Solution for the following issue till now: I run W7 64 bit and FT 2.2.0.279. The Camera Settings are reset every Time I start FT, I can (and must) only set Flickering Mode to 60Hz to get 30 FPS. The Camera Property Page is blank. The Cam works with removed IR-Filter and I put a DiY Disc-IR-Filter on the Lens. Tracking is jerky in FSX with Simconnect, Tirviews.dll does not work for me (why I don´t know). |

Trust WB3400T, no modifications
initial testing with remote control: IR led-signal is detected fine. - high cpu usage (averages around 25% on celeron d 3Ghz) - fps=2, jps=1 - not working the way it should |

I use a Logitech C300.
(19,00€ at a local store in germany) I removed the IR filter and added the disk of a floppy as daylight filter. (If you use a 2 cent coin as template you don't need any material to attach the daylight filter, because it sticks in the hole in front of the lens by itself. When using powerfull LEDs and depending on the light conditions in your room, it's even possible to leave the IR-filter untouched. So if you leave a small lug when cutting out the daylight filter, it can be easily removed and reattached. As a result you can use the C300 still as a normal webcam) The cam works perfectly with RGB24 and also I420 in 640x480. FPS always 30 Jitter always 0 CPU usage 7% (System: Windows 7 64bit / Q6600@3500 / GTX470) edit: I'm using the cam with this ugly headtracking device.

I can also confirm that the Logitech C300 works really well, but only with Freetrack 2.1.
EDIT: I've now got it working with Freetrack 2.2 (see this thread) The cam only worked well enough when I removed the IR filter (easy to do) and stuck a bit of floppy disk on the front to use as a daylight filter. Using a powerful PC on windows 7 64bit, I get the same as the above poster: RGB24 and I420 in 640x480 FPS mostly 30 Jitter mostly 0 Not sure if anyone can help me get it working in freetrack 2.2, perhaps something for another thread - in short: when using 2.2, everytime I start the tracking, freetrack launches the camera's setting window and closes itself. Otherwise, I've successfully used my 3 point clip, this webcam and freetrack 2.1 in EECH and Freefalcon 5.53 - it works superbly tbh! Thanks for making this wonderful software!

I went out and brought a fancy logitech camera, works good, but then i found my old very old, DSE (Dicksmith Electronics) webcam, i've had it for like 5 years? anyhow, i ripped it open and pulled the IR blocker out like it says too, then put it back together. On a bright summers day, blinds open sun glaring in, this camera works extremely well! i have it fine tuned, and i can use it night or day, and have no issues with noise!
Installed it says its a VGA USB Camera (2120). googling that brings it up. twinkle cam pro? DSE called it something different. but yeah. its good! |

Canyon CNR-WCAM820 -- seems to work with freetrack 2.2, but has small FOV, so I paying no further attention to this cam.
Microsoft lifecam vx-800 -- reported working, it is working for me in freetrack 2.2, wil report details later (I`m new with freetrack, just starting building my system) and btw neither is working with freetrack 2.1, because program crashes when streaming is started. edit: Microsoft lifecam vx-800 is working indeed. It is possible change auto exposure in drivers without problems. Cam has IR filter. To remove it you need to remove 2 screws in the back of the cam, open it, take out PCB, unscrew 2 screws in the back of the PCB holding objective. With sharp object remove ir filter (i had to crush it) and put cam together again.

My Logitech C250 (europe model, €16,99) works like a charm so far in Freetrack v2.2, constant 30fps@640x480, zero Jitter at all. Freetrack takes only 4..8% CPU load. My settings are mostly the same as FALL3N's. I have 3 OSRAM IR-leds, and the cam's IR filter removed (quite easy!). I could post a guide with pictures if anyone is interested. (And if only i found out how to add pictures ;-)) However there is one setting in the Advanced Camera Properties that made all the difference between crappy 15 fps and smooth 30fps. EDIT: The picture is here: It's called something like "Low light level amplification" under "image quality" (It's in dutch so i don't know the exact english names). Make sure it's unchecked as it will seriously impact framerate.
