Off line Www

First off,

Big hats off to you guys and this software!!! It has opened up a world of inspiration for me to learn new things about point model interaction. I knew nothing about the capabilities of things like this before I found free-track. In the coarse of a month, I have learned from you all at this site, read up over at touchlib (another great resource), as well as Johnny Lee Chungs projects. All of this has got me a great immersion kit for gaming, a touch screen that was once just and lcd monitor, and the cheapest whiteboard you can buy!!!

I read Krestel's post on another forum about chungs tinkerings of the wiimote. I won't quote anything from there, but I do agree with Krestel.

Now with all the brown nosing aside, ;)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have made some scripts with glovepie on a used, chewed up wiimote i bought to "kind of" emulate what free track does, and i do mean kind of...

One thing i noticed is it seems as though the field of view is narrower than a regular webcam. This makes sense though, since it is designed to be used at a distance from the bar. Please correct me if this is not true. If anyone out there has some hard data on this, by all means let me know.

One thing that i do love is the frame rate on this thing. My god, it nearly rivals that of trackir! It actually tracks faster than a mouse on the screen.

So, with those pros and cons, is there anything else that any of you have noticed as a pro or con? With everyone going crazy for 2.2, I think it would be a good idea to post some info that might prevent them from wasting money on wiimotes if it doesn't hold up to their expectations.

The Wiimote field of view is 41 degrees which is about average for a webcam. All TrackIRs before version 4 managed with a 33 degree fov. The biggest advantage of the wiimote is no cpu consumption and a high frame rate. In practice there isn't much of a difference between a TrackIR 4 and Wiimote. With the right settings a Wiimote appears to be equivalent to a TrackIR 3 in stability, smoothness and responsiveness.
