Hi guys,
just joined these forums and am very excited at the prospect of building one of these things. I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 Does anyone esle have one of these working with freetrack and if so do i need to remove the IR filter. I would prefer not to if i could as i am not very confident with opening the camera up, however i will do to get this thing working. I have looked up the LED on the internet -http://uk.farnell.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=1212738 Are these the right ones? Thanks all |

Hi !
First, these LEDs are the right one ! And your webcam is okay, but I don't know if you'll have to remove the IR filter. Basically, removing the IR filter is just to improve comfort. You are not forced to remove it, especially if you don't use FreeTrack in daylight. Rémy |

Thanks didja,
I reckon i will be using this alot in daylight what with the summer coming up so looks like i will have to figure a way or removing the ir filter. Is there anyway i can test the camera without having to build the headset yet. i saw the video on youtube of the american fella testing it with a remote control. If i get a floppy disk and cut the disk bit and but it in front of the camera and then use a remote control will this test if the camera is going to be ok> thanks |

There is no problem with the camera, it's gonna be okay ! One has reported that it works well with FreeTrack (have a peek in the webcam compatibility list ).
Anyway, you can test it proceeding as you just wrote, you'll be sure ^^. Have a nice day ! Rémy |

Hi Didja,
has this camera been reported as working well without modification? or with the IR lens removed! |

The report is as followaing :
* Works well, even with classic red LEDs. * FPS 30, Jitter 0-3 * Approx. 50 euros Then, we can guess, as the guy tested it with red LEDs, he didn't remove the IR filter. But don't worry about the IR filter, I get a really good tracking with my cam and the IR filter hasn't been removed . Rémy |

Hi Didja
You sir are a shining example of helpfulness!!! one more question with your camera did you place and filter over the lens i.e floppy disk filter to help the camera along? |

Oh yes, it helps a lot !
My filter is composed of two layers of photograph negatives ... As a support, I've drilled the top of a plastic bottle's cap (it goes perfectly on the lens of my cam) and taped the layers on it... Have a nice day ! Rémy |

Now i got to build me a 3 led head thing :- One question If i build a three led head set thing will i be able to zoom in in games like FSX at the moment i can move my head around the cockpit which is great but i wanna zoom in on stuff as well. |

yeah, I'm pretty sure you can, I think FSX isn't too happy about it, but FS2004 works just fine.

Yes, it's gonna work !
There is some setting up to do because this axis is really sensitive with the current version, but you can get it working ! Rémy |

FSUIPC with FS2004 supports zooming. SimConnect with FSX does not support zooming, instead using the z-axis for translation.

hmmm - mixed views here - but what i am getting is the fact it is going to be difficult to set up. Has anyone got FSX and got zooming working. It would be great so i can look behind consoles and stuff like i see them doing on youtube all the time!

You CAN translate forward/back, left/right, up/down.
You CAN'T zoom in/out. |
