Hey all,

I'm really new to this but I'm very interested in making a FreeTrack setup on a cap. I've read all the info on the website, including the compatible webcams and their guides on how to get rid of the IR filter in it. The Logitiech Quickcam Espress is on both the compatibility guide and IR filter removal guide mentioned. Now, the thing is, I can not get my hands on a Quickcam Express but I can get my hands on either a Quickcam Express Plus or Quickcam chat. The Quickcam Express Plus comes with a headset and the Quickcam Chat doesn't. There aren't any other differences between the models, only 5 euro's because the Quickcam Express Plus comes with a headset. Which I won't use anyway.

On the outside it looks the same as the Quickcam Express and the Quickcam Express Plus, does that mean removing the IR filter will be equally easy as it is with the Quickcam Express? Will this webcam work with FreeTrack?

The reason I'm kinda limited to buying a Quickcam Chat or Quickcam Express Plus is because those are the only cheap ones sold in some local store. I don't feel like buying one on the internet. Should it turn south, I'm planning on putting the webcam back together so it looks like I just unpacked it. I'll return it to the store, saying it was for someone's birthday but for some reason it wasn't compatible with that person's hardware/software.  :D

Quickcam Chat's specifications according to the Logitech website:

System Requirements

- Windows® 2000, Windows® XP
- Pentium® 4 1.4 GHz or AMD Athlon™ 1GHz processor
- 128MB RAM
- 200 MB hard drive
- CD-ROM drive
- 16-bit color display adapter
- OS compatible sound card and speakers
- 1.1 or 2.0 USB port

Software

- Logitech QuickCam Applications:
Free 30-day trial of Logitech® VideoCall with online photo sharing function
One-click video email
QuickCapture for photos
- Bonus Software included:
HP PhotoSmart Essential application for capturing, editing, and printing images
ArcSoft® Collage Creator™ to create collages of images captured

Technical Specifications

- Quality CiF (352x288) CMOS webcam
- Video capture: 640x480 pixels (SW enhanced)
- Still image capture: 640x480 pixels (SW enhanced)
- Frame rate: Up to 30 frames per second (with recommended system)
- USB 2.0 certified
- Manual focus

EDIT: What I forgot to mention, I've got a fair mid range hardware setup on my notebook but a very shitty cheap ass video chipset. Will that cause any trouble? Does a webcam only consume CPUsage or does it consume your RAM/Video card/HDD (pagefile?) performance too? I'm planning on running FreeTrack with EECH 1.10.1. A litte CPUsage consumed is no big deal but I can absolutely not afford losing any performance from either my video chipset, harddisk or RAM.

- AMD Turion TL-50 dual core, 1,6GHz
- 768 MB RAM (256 MB captured as shared video RAM)
- ATI xPress x1100 video chipset
- 5400 RPM Harddisk
- XP SP2

I have a Logitech QuickCam Express and I find that it works quite well. All I did was stick a bit of old developed film negative over the lens. I am also using the  IR LED SFH485P leds

Didn't you remove the IR filter?
