I planned un using a 9V battery and the LED-assembly-wizzard said that I'd need a 68Ohm resistor to make it work. Yet, that setting seems to kill the first LED in line almost instantly as soon as current is applied.
Any ideas what the reason might be? Faulty resistor? Or did the wizzard lead me astray? Thx in advance for any responses. |

What LEDs are you using for it?
What are the values you fill in? 1-Point or 3-Point? |

IR LEDs with a foward Voltage of 1.35V and forward current of 100mA, though I used 75 mA for calculation.
And it's a 3point clip |

Did you use 1/2Watt resistor?
You got about 0.33Watt dissipated power. A 1/4Watt resistor isn't enough in this case, although I do not believe it's the reason for the problem. Do you got a voltmeter to measure voltage and current? |

It is wired correctly, the problem is, the setup kills the LEDs. I tested if one of the LEDs might be broken with my mobilephone. Turns out, the first one in the series actually was. But even while I held the other LED I used to test it in my hand it grew hot and burned out. I used another of those LEDs to bypass the broken one and it burned out even as I did so... And I have no clue why.

Did you connect those leds in serie or paralel? Did you see, while testing, 2 leds lighting up and one not? greetz Stormrider |

You have a wiring problem or you are misunderstanding something. What part number are the IR LEDs? Post a close up picture of the wiring of resistor and LEDs to the power source! |

I used these. TBH, I didn't bother to take a look at what LEDs whould be best apart from them being IR-LEDs. And I connected them in serie after this fashion.
So, it's either none of them shining, or all of them. I'll get you a picture, as soon as the sun provides some proper lighting for taking one >_> I think, that I didn't mess up the wiring... it's not the most beautyful work of soldering (for i barely erver do that) but it should be fine. I'll let you guys judge when I get you the picture. What I think will happen is, someone will tell my that I bought a low-quality/faulty resistor and that thing messed it up. And, after closer examination, it seems my attempt to bypass the broken LED with another one resulted in the death of all three LEDs that I used. So... I'm in need of new ones. Any suggestions which ones to use once we figured out what i did wrong in the first attempt?^^ |

It has no colored rings to mark the value. It just reads "R68 5%"

R68 means .68 Ohms not 68 Ohms like you thought.
