Hi Guys,
New the the forum. Just bought a Trackclip Pro as im hopeless with soldering ect. Just wondering what the best option to go with would be out of buying a MS vx-1000 or buying a decent Bluetooth dongle (i already have a wiimote)?. Iv heard some stories of Wiimote not picking up the Trackclip but then again iv heard reports that it picks it up fine.. Just not really sure what one to go with as theyre pretty much the same price. Any help would be appreciated. |

Have you removed the ir-filter and applied visible light filter? If not, that will help(but makes your webcam useless for normal use).

I use the VX-1000, too. Make sure the LEDs are bright enough. My first attempt was with 3 IR-LEDs I raped an old IR-Webcam for, and they were so weak that I had to darken the room completely including the keyhole to avoid ANY backlight, and even then tracking was hardly possible. Then I thought about a Wiimote, too, but I gave it on more try and bought new LEDs (1.4V, 20mA, noname), connected them to a 4.5V power source, filed down the top and put 2 layers of developed negatives in front of the lens of the cam. The LEDs are now so bright I can set the Threshold nearly to the max so there is no need to darken the room completely (direct sunlight causes still problems) and the LEDs are detected superb. Constant 29 FPS and 0-3 JPS.

Hey,
I ended up just buying a bluetooth dongle and using the Wiimote (which works great) as I couldn't figure out the vx-1000.. though most people seem to be fine with it *shrugs* I had the wiimote lying around so it didnt cost me much more money. |

Well wiimote is made to detect ir-light and vx-1000 isn't. You just have to remove ir-filter from the inside of vx-1000 and perhaps add a visible-light filter(floppydisk magnetic tape or film negative) and then it should work fine.
With Wiimote you get 100 fps but it's more expensive and sensor resolution is 128x96. With VX-1000 fps is 20-30 and sensor resolution of 352 x 288. Oh and Wiimote doesn't use much CPU compared to VX-1000.

Hi guys,
On a similar subject... was thinking of buying a TrackClip Pro for use with Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000. Have been using home-made clip with 3 green LEDs which works well without any mods to the webcam. However, my soldering/craft skills are useless so my model is unreliable to say the least...! Do you think I'll need to remove the IR filter on this cam to get the TrackClip to pick up? Anyone know how bright the Tracklip LEDs are? Or are they invisible because they're IR? Thanks for your help... |
