ive found these on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220345404473&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm38%26_nkw%3D220345404473%2B%2B%26_fvi%3D1 i guess combining those glasses w freetrack would result in quite affordable virtual reality...well some sort anyway... has anyone tried that? |

The problem is they are only 800x600 max resolution.

That's a great price for 800x600 native resolution HMD if the bidding doesn't go up.
It looks like those will also scale down 1024x768, which is a plus. The 26° field of view is the only thing I see that could be better. Similar products usually have about a 32° fov, but cost over $300. I agree with you that they are an affordable way to get more immersive VR. I don't think you can find any with higher resolution for under a grand. |

i have never tried vr glasses...but i assume that 800x600 is probably good enough especially if u turn antialiasing on...

Haha, no trust me, it won't be pretty even with all the AA in the world. I've tried a 800x600 res VR HMD like ten years ago, and even then I noticed it was a very pixelated eye sore after a while. Considering how big the viewing area looks when you have them on, you need a much higher res to get a good looking image. No reason why they can't make a good HMD with a higher res these days in 2009, but the thing is, HMDs never caught on like people imagined they would in the nineties, so there is virtually(no pun intended) no market for them. |

When you scale a higher resolution down, I think quality depends on the device and how well it scales down. If your application can run at the native resolution of the device you are using it will probably be the clearest. There are a lot of happy VR920 users and they only have 640x480 native resolution. I think most of us use FreeTrack for better immersion. Just the 2nd half of last year 3D drivers for dual screen HMDs have gotten a lot better and work for more games. Some people find the extra immersion good 3D gives you is worth using a lower resolution. The great head tracking you get with FreeTrack added to an HMD just makes the HMD all that much better.
What 10 year old game or application were you using on the HMD that was very pixelated? Which HMD was it so we know what to stay away from. |

Hi guys,
first time to post! I was doing a project for VR glasses and head tracking and I tried different models from different producers (I'm also a distributor of this product) and the max resolution I saw until now is 800x600. The advantage of using it with an head tracking is that you don't have the limit of the screen position: you can basically do every motion (until the camera can track your head). That was the project I did last year with a student: http://www.epokh.org/blog/?page_id=65 I didn't try it with free-track yet but I'm going to build a new version and see how it performs. Cheers. [EDITED] I just got some news from one of my supplier, they have a new model of stereo glasses which supports NVIDIA stereo API. COOOOL!
