I went ahead and cobbled together a hat based 3 point system for 2.2. I fly
aces high and have wondered about trackIR. I've read an awful lot of good stuff about freetrack and figured if I can get it to work I can chip in a few bucks for continued development and still come out ahead. I used the radioshack 5mm "high output" infrared LED's (part # 276-0143). These are 16mW min output and are 1.2V/29mA. I have a logitech quickcam STX.

In low light it seems the unit tracks 1 or 2 points but they appear very small and I get a red signal dot. Is this a combination of everything or primarily an unmodded cam or poor choice of LED? Do I need to file these LED's? (45 degree 1/2 intensity)

So far I've found no FAQ for modifiying this cam and cant see a way to crack the case. Any help greatly appreciated...
