Anyone know what could cause LED's to "pusle" in FT's preview window? I'm now using the wiimote, it wasn't as obvious with a webcam because the dots are much smaller so I never noticed it. It causes a little jumping in game.
I did try a new power supply. It's a cell phone charger, 5v. I tested it with a multimeter and had a steady voltage of 5.25. I'm using the radio shack LED's sanded down at 50mA. I have SFH485P's on order. Screenshot with Webcam Screenshot with Wii Remote How they look when pulsing. They jump between this size and the size above. Are the LED's to bright with the Wiimote? Should I use lower mA? Or could this be an issue with the wiimote itself? .

Hey clutch and sorry for the delay...
I'm not an expert and don't use a wiimote myself... But since you're problems looks quite particular, I would think it comes from your LEDs... Then I guess you should try with lower mA. Maybe you could try to set a thin IR filter in front of your wiimote (only one negative of photo maybe ?)... and to see what it looks like then ... Good luck ! Rémy |

Some more guesses here...
If the surface of the LED's are irregular (such as from grinding them), then the output would be irregular. So, irregular, it might be impossible to hold still enough to prevent varying levels of light from hitting the camera, depending on the exact angle you are facing. I know that the idea is to frost them, but since it is IR, it hard to determine the actual output and how evenly it is spread. Also, an unmodified, narrowly focus LED, would give varying brightness, depending on the direction you were facing. But, I am sure this would require a much larger angle of moment in comparison to what I describe in the previous paragraph.. Joe Dunfee |

Thanks for the reply's. After looking closer, I've found it's not a problem with just the Wiimote. It does it with my webcam as well, just wasn't as noticable since the dots appear smaller. I'm thinking maybe it's the sanded LED's. When I get the SFH485P's in, I'll know for sure.

Problem solved, now using SFH485P's.
