Quick question: Would I be able to setup up a stationary LED array around the camera lens and use reflective stickers on the hat instead of the LEDs on the hat itself? I just figure that it would negate the need to attach a power supply to my cap. Thanks for your help. Scott I should also mention that I'm using wooden, reflective spheres .... not simply a flat piece of reflective tape. Edited by scott on 02/04/2008 at 17h40.

I did it myself some time ago: http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=466&message=3827 I used 3M diamond grade tape, something like this: I had some trouble with the clip shown on the picture, and i had to cut the tape pieces to round shape instead of rectangular and make them smaller. Also i heated up the retroflective tape with hot air (from SMD rework station) - i wanted to bend the tape pieces a bit to make them fit curves of the clip (that tape's really thick) , but instead i got a much better and unexpected effect: if you take a close look at the tape's surface, you'll notice a hexagonal plastic grid embedded in it. When i heated up the tape, the grid retained its shape, but the rest of the tape expanded, forming small domes over the tape's surface, making the reflections visible even better and from bigger angles. Before that accidental modification FT kept losing points, but now this setup works like a charm

Class : Apprenti Posts : 49 Registered on : 13/08/2008 Off line	Regarding reflective tape. I've done a bit of experimenting with various kinds for a different project. There does seem to be a lot of variation in how reflective various tapes are, and how large the "grain" is. By grain, I am referring to the size of each individual reflective element. It only matters if your grain is too small for the size of the targets you are cutting. As for sources, I've seen reflective tape or pieces at Walmart in the automotive department, and that was actually the best I came across in terms of brightness. But, I don't know if it actually matters for this project, since you are relatively close to your light source. Of course, any automotive parts store will have reflective tape, as will many hardware stores. Joe Dunfee

Class : Apprenti Posts : 3 Registered on : 10/05/2009 Off line	hey guys im new to all of this and im also planning on making a reflective model, as i prefer not having all those electronics on my head.... so what im planning on doing is having 6IR-LEDs on my computer screen to illuminate my reflectors. this is a number i just came up with myself with not much thought behind it. can you kind of estimate if that will work, or tell me a ballpark-figure of the mA i will need to have them take in order to get good results as for the camera, have a Microsoft Life Cam, which i dont thik will do. i am thinking about getting a ps3 eye as those get >100 FPS. (stop me if i shouldnt do that) thanks for your help [EDIT]: I just found a IR module on Conrad wich i think might do the trick for me.
